HAVE YOU SEEN IT

HAVE YOU SEEN IT

By Alexander Duque

In green I’ve seen

DEPTHS

In green I’ve seen

DEATHS

In green I’ve seen

GREED

In green I’ve seen

LIBERTY

In green I’ve seen

SLAVERY

In green I’ve seen

POWER

In green I’ve seen

HONOR

In green I’ve seen

JUSTICE

In green I’ve seen

I Love You!

Baby, My love, My Boo,

I love you,

I miss you,

I wish I could kiss you,

The way you make my heart feel,

It seems so unreal,

I love your voice so much,

That and longing to feel your touch,

No doubt you are the love of my life,

Me away from you all I do is cry,

If you were to leave,

I would leave,

Please believe,

You were made for me,

Out of all the hurt you made it better,

And it all started with a simple letter,

A simple thought of us being together,

the choice

reaching out towards you.
I can see a slight glimpse.
is this how its supposed to be.
mixed thoughts and cravings intimately true.
forever under your thumb upholstered on a tree
i can feel your heart beat against mine
so strong
so lonely
so scared.
strokes and diseases imbedded by time.
sweet dearest beat
painful swallow
lonely walking feet
erased by your fierceful callow
Im bored and frightened every day.
shrieking inside at you constantly.
desolute and crying for you to stay.
pushing you and trembling like a baby.

Reflection

I have divested myself
of self.

Allowed the weight of expectation
to fall.

Pooling the moon around my feet
to stand within
a puddle of ambient light.

I’m waiting for us
patient impatience
finger tapping
white caps breaking
upon wet sand days.

The walking agitations
of disturbed air
puffing moon dust
around us.

Grey ash stirred
offers no reflections
as it
deadens the sound
of dislocation.

Between us
the lore is strong

My Mama

She’s pretty, strong and oh, so smart.

I love my Mama with all my heart.

She’s sweet kind and sincere.

Always willing to lend an ear.

She comforted me when I was afraid.

When she came and chased my fears away.

She dried my tears and bandaged my knee.

My Mama means the world to me.

She was my comforter when I was sad.

She was my disciplinary when I was bad.

As a child, I was often over her knee.

Getting a spanking because she loved me.

One Can Only Laugh

Gorillas in the wild, despite the token news seen good, near their inevitable extinction.

One can only laugh.

By my last count, at least half a million U.S. people die directly from omnipresent cigarette consumption (and its ubiquitous air-polluting smoke) yearly.

One can only laugh.

And the behavior’s kept legal.

One can only laugh.

That doesn’t take into account the fatal fires so caused by such acts universal in smokers’ homes … and in our fields and forests.

One can only laugh.
