No Vacancies

and soon
I shall cry
when I swim
alone
and remember
how
it was
when the
dolphins
welcomed me

The Target

forever is a word
often said
and
never meant
yet often heard

when
it lands
inside the
targets mind

it sets off
a train reaction

you can see
light
in the targets eyes
and you
become shocked
when
a smile
washes its way
onto the once
emotionless face

alas
when it is used
with glib preperation
you will find
on closer inspection
bullet wounds
have pierced each letter

on their way
to destroying
and then murdering
a once happy
loving soul

Blind Justice

Blind Justice
by Jim Nasium

The tailor brought a class action suit
when the baker said he kneaded the dough
they called in a farmer out standing in his field
and a traveler who wanted some place to go
the fisherman wasn’t the only one who went to sea
a candle maker was standing there in the light
the doctor, the lawyer and street walker
were also there to share that night

Another Day For The Wizard

Another Day For The Wizard
A Poem by Jim Nasium

A dragon, some griffins, fairies and a wizard
made their way home through a blizzard

Lost in a snow storm under the tropical sun
hours spent day dreaming; another day’s done

No need for much; some food and a bed
visions of tomorrow dance in the wizards head

The dragon stands guard while the griffins creep
fairies fly around watching the wizard sleep

II.

Just before sun up the Wizard awakes
prepares his spells; makes no mistakes

Sometimes The Wind Will Blow

Sometimes The Wind Will Blow
by Jim Nasium

In the haze of early morning
out in the middle of no where
the opium farmer offers dreams
that can only be had there
days spent chasing the dragon
lost in another place
you don’t need to say a word
it’s written all over your face

Out of the heat of mid day
you rest inside the hut
young girls fan and serve you
don’t care you’re stuck in a rut
they are more than willing
to satisfy your every need
you sit there with a needle in your arm
watching your self bleed

Waiting For The Morning Bus

Waiting For The Morning Bus
     by Jim Nasium

Dawn slowly colors the Eastern sky
reflections of sunrise paint the sea water
birds sing the song of a new day
dogs bark as cats head home from the prowl

My feet soak in the warm salt water
as I sit on the sea wall waiting
the bus to town is late again today
no one is ever in a hurry here

Off in the distance I see a few small boats
the waves toss them towards the shore
their nets are loaded with today’s catch
fresh treats for the sea food lover

The Hunters

The Hunters
by Jim Nasium

Once while deep in The Amazon
I watched the hunters dance
with raised arms they spun in circles
chanting traditional hunting songs

Dancing to build trust in their abilities
there was no time to wallow in doubt
a small gourd cup was passed around
filled and refilled with a magical hunting potion

The potions scientific name belongs in parentheses
right behind the Indian name, chi chi doro
somewhere on the sketch pad of my colorful past
unplugged and left motionless for too long now

Tears in Her Eyes

Tears In Her Eyes

She’s a bitter young girl with tears in her eyes.

The hurt’s kept well hidden deep inside.

She tries to pretend, but she can’t hide.

The hurt, the pain, the sad good byes.

She’s longing for the daddy of long ago.

He doesn’t know it, but she loves him so.

If only he would walk in and hold her tight.

She wouldn’t be crying throughout the night.

There was a time not long ago.

When her own daddy loved her so.

Things got bad between her Mom and Dad.
