New Day

Smells of fresh morning dew,
nothing in the air but cold, fog.
Sounds of wildlife renewed,
all animals make their noises, the frog.

Sights of a new day,
little flowers,
in a meadow.

Sway in winds.

All secrets of a night,
locked away,
kept from this new day.

For nights to come.

The Sea

Only the open sea
can capture me
only the vast distance
can challenge me
my walls are built up
to the sea
they will fall down
my heart never runs
but to the distance
it shall sound

ms. woodchuck

I follow skunk and possum
for to eat their chosen blossom;

and if should happen by---
oh, gosh! oh, gosh! oh, my!---

by my good luck
fat ms. woodchuck,

I then stalk her for such foods she’ll find
‘cause it’s my plump health I keep in mind

Welcome Home, Soldier

Welcome home, soldier
with something to hide,
and eyes to look down
at the gravel below you.
Kiss the ground,
your mother earth.
Why are you home in the first place?
Evil people
make evil wars,
(is there any other kind?)
There are no heroes left in Canaan,
and no truth behind your own front lines.
Welcome home, soldier.

Welcome home, soldier
are you surprised with what you see?
This is the land you defended,
the land you call home.

Aggressor,
evil men
have evil intent.

RATS

Rats said the Jess,
swatting at a passing allusion,
if things don’t improve
I’m going to cancel my subscription
to Nihilist Weekly.

Double rats said the Jess as a skinhead materiaIised
out of a pile of dogshit and
having left his sledgehammer at home,
was forced to soil his hands tearing him limb from limb.
If things don’t improve
I am going to have a great deal of difficulty
rationalising my already untenable position
with the adventurist left.

ggggrrrrrr I’m losing my touch said the Jess

My house

I love my little house
I creep back here like a mouse
when life is hard
But mostly I exalt
in its encompassing gestalt
 of love

The Ratbag

Some people are born bad,
some are made bad by lifes hard knocks,
others turn bad for no apparent reason.
I was born bad, made worse and  became pure fucking evil for no apparent reason.
Or so my shrink said before they dragged him off giggling and screaming.

State of Grace

I am calm and aware -
in a state of grace.
My Father comforts me
with a strong hand on my shoulder.
I know love,
because I am loved.
I know patience,
because he is patient with me.
I know forgiveness,
because I am forgiven.
I know mercy,
because he is merciful to me.
I will not be afraid
wherever I might take a step.
He stands behind me.
I have powerful generations and ancestors
to keep watch over me.
In a state of grace,
I will not be cowed.
I have been given summertime.
I am thankful for the larks, and the robins,

The Great Big Alone

The Great Big Alone We are floating
not at all near cloud nine.
Just dangling there
between life and near death,
caught between grief, guilt, get over it
and all the good intentions.
We are caught
in the great big alone.
I finally foundthe last place on Earth I want to be;
a tiny room
with a beautiful view
tucked at the back of the birthing center wing
of Fairview Hospital.
A “F.E.E.L” sticker’s affixed to the door,

Findley Lake

Tonight I will dream of Findlay Lake,
and of our site in the circle - arm.
It is our special place
one night of memories,
building blocks.
I will dream tonight
of seeing you and Joshua
up ahead of me on the beach,
not the fabulous white sand beaches
of the south,
but the lovely and rural beach on Findlay Lake.
There will be fireworks on the Fourth of July,
there will be fireworks at one A.M.
and continuing through the night,
"the Angels bowling"
as you once said to me.
Our rods and reels
hang in the garage
