warm itch

My father
Number 8
My mother
Number 7
The pens were all dried up
So I had no release
And the computer wouldn’t turn on
So I just sat outside on the gutter
And the concrete was warm,
bits of glass suck to my calves but didn’t penetrate the skin
and after a while I became itchy
so I took a walk down the middle of the road
and kept going
I didn’t really know where one suburb ended and the next began
I didn’t come home till dusk and it was getting cooler.
I had a nice day.
I’ll do it again tomorrow.

...

Do we ever stop running?
Flash, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, flash
Unidentifiable things go past
And you’re left
Right
Passive
Unable to fight
Only writhe
And writhe you shall:
Pick up the kids large latte two sugars fill up the gas fear of living alone
Safety
In numbers
If only you could remember the combination
Trapped forever
Divorces are cheap these days
63%
47%
decreasing your load
they used to call you the forklift
you have to spoon feed her now
ninety three on Monday

cafe

girl walks in, black dress.
i look up,
then down.
waitress springs past.
old italians babble.
fat arses sway.
old bags chinwag.
espresso machine squeals.
santana wails.
yuppie furniture.
halogen down lights.
see old teacher.
avert gaze.
tasty mushroom.
i scribble.
$17.

She

She is doggedly determined to be right
and doggedly determined to be wise.
She is disconnected,
and her anger is subtle at times.
At times
she is fire,
she is
antithesis.
In the summer
she is tragicomedy.
In autumn
she wilts.
What is her attraction to man?
She is blindsided
and arrogant.
Her movements are restrictive
and her walk is purposeful,
but she has no here to there.
Naive,
that’s what I would call her.
She is doggedly naive
and is fitted with a collar.
In her eyes
she sees freedom,

Lunch Break

It was his lunch break
and he came up to his room
he open his door and
his jaw drop to the floor
I laid on his bed
completely nude and bare
I can tell he wanted to
come over but all he can
do is stare
I run my hands down
my chest and slowly
between my thighs
he thinks a dream he
can barely believe his eyes
I tell him to come closer
and lay down by my side
taking off his shirt slowly
before I can unzip his pants
his friend was to hard to hide
while I’m slowly
undress him he can’t keep

to Jess: in memory of Brian

I once had an autistic son,

my only one,

who died at just 20,

his life snuffed out

by cystic fibrosis.

the pain at his death

near-score years ago

yet lingers,

still cuts,

still hurts,

is still sharp.

On Severy Dranes

Befud the timbers

To offiss gimbers.

Sins wend descry the wolf

Offiss moon-cal both.

Tranes do cranes

On severy dranes

To glim-replace

Every race dan savor face.

what you did for me

a one and a two,

you can buckle my shoe;

then, after this one thing

you did for me,

I’ll do this for you:

first I’ll pirouette,

recite the alphabet,

reserve a jumbo jet,

prep a crêpe suzette,

arrange my coverlet,

date a bachelorette,

then I’ll buckle your shoe—

and while I’m at it,

I’ll thank you

for buckling mine, too.
