Why is A Lantern

If you understand the why,
you can bear any how-
that's what we were once told,
but it feels even truer
when life presses hard
into the soft part of your world.

A why is a lantern.
It doesn't erase the dark,
but it gives your hands
a steady light to hold on to
while you walk through it.

A why is a name you whisper
when the road turns rough,
a reason that steadies your breath
when the world asks more of you
than you thought you had.

The Moment After Hope

I imagine sometimes,
when I close my eyes,
that when I open them,
you’ll be there.

You never are.

Be My Final Seven Minutes

BE MY FINAL SEVEN MINUTES

It's said when death comes calling
As each of us will eventually face
Seven minutes of time we recount at the end
As flash backs of our life embraced.

It may be true or maybe a myth
But I know there's one thing for sure
I want you to be my seven minutes
A last spurt in a memory tour.

I don't want sunsets or vacations
Or things I wished that I had done
Just your face and embrace all recounted
The memory that can't be undone.

Embracing

Oh, May!

opening my eyes
pulling back my curtains
unlatching my door
stepping onto my porch
beholding this new day
and inhaling your glorious arrival!

Finding you here!

Here at last!

windswept voices

Rough is the wind that flattens
a tree from its anchored moor,

a destiny not too quick to ruin
presents a whispered word to me:

on we traverse without respite
that weary road we take,

what imprint is left behind
that sweeps relentlessly against these walls--

a spectre of bygone landscapes
whose blustering gusts are raptured calls

Summer

‎Valentine was a waste of time,
‎I felt my soul captured-
‎no feelings rising beneath,
‎To support my truckload of emotions.
‎Every moment felt grudging, antagonistic,
‎A shrewd reflection of harmony torn in pieces.

‎Now summer is here,
‎Trying to sweep my street off its feet,
‎But I'm locked up in this disease called nostalgia,
‎Feeding on it slowly-
‎from the inside out.

‎My time on this earth is kind of programmed,

A Second Draft of Us

Rewriting Memory

There comes a time when we cross a certain threshold
Like reaching higher ground and seeing the road behind
It’s as if the map we held had several detours
Some were needless while trying to find peace of mind

And maybe those diversions were necessary
Sometimes guidance and advice will fall on deaf ears
But we live and we learn, with bumps, bruises and burns
Recalling how we would’ve saved ourselves some tears

Gone Girl

Some say she walked alone, though others' wondered why. She longed to be raven, so that she might fly away. She pitied every Sakura Tree, for planted they would stay. She longed to be a flame; that brightly waltzed alone, making the steam & air, its' only home. Some say she wished too hard, others'; too much, but, one Spring Twilight day, she stretched her arms out wide, breathed in; let go of everything she knew & had been through, & simply "flew".

April Fooled

April Fooled
Spring has come with sunshine
A time when plants begin to flourish
Mothers pull out last year’s plants and installs new plants
Singing and smiling hoping for growth
But now comes snow, so sad
