Customer Service?

I've been placed on hold,
where the music is older
than the person I'm waiting for.

A voice assures me
I am "very important,"
which feels like a polite lie
told by a machine
that should know better.

Still, I stay-because,
I'm next in the cue
and they will "be with me shortly,"
no matter how long that takes.

Then there's the music.
That damn music,
now several minutes older,
but just as obnoxious,
as it was when I first called.

"from winter's window

"from winter's window"

No window to the outside
can hide the frozen landscape
from the eye;
by its very existence,
with a fertile mind,
one can feel the chill.

Someone walks past,
coat brushing the air,

an idea in tentative sway,

seeking its angle
in a brief drift of cold
where the eye is coaxed
to perfect fleeting gold.

I don’t want to be saved from it.

I find you in the hush between heartbeats,
a ghost stitched into the seams of every ordinary hour.

In the phone I refuse to factory-reset,
your messages rise like drowned letters from a shipwreck—
“miss you” at 2:17 a.m.,
the little blue heart I still can’t delete.
I scroll until the screen burns my thumb,
and there you are, alive in pixels,
laughing at something I said that no longer matters.

The Debt of Eternal Dusk

The moon was a sickle of rusted old bone,
and the wind through the sage was a low, dying moan.
No stars dared to flicker, no cricket would cry,
as the border grew thin 'tween the earth and the sky.

Zaftig's puppet

Otherwise known as the property manager
would be the name of the muppet
if Sesame Street happened
to be in the market seeking
another character maintaining
his/hers, him/her, and they/theirs
role of minor boss
in the video game Cuphead.

A Heart Kept Open

There is no storm so loud, so wild,
that it does not leave behind
a clearing. No night so heavy
that the dawn forgets
where to find you.

Even the broken things-
the plans that fell apart,
the doors that slammed shut,
the days that felt like loss-
carry seeds of possibility,
dropping them quietly
into the soil of your life.

Good grows in strange ways,
it hides in detours, in disappointments,
in the long pauses you never asked for.
It waits in the shadows
until you are ready to see it.

The Embers Burn Low

I set the plate, the chipped blue rim,
and watch the world grow strange and dim.
Inside your eyes—those windows barred,
where once I played in the sunny yard.
You look at me, but the look is thin,
like tracing silk where a soul had been.

The shadows stretch across the floor,
beside a man who is no more.
The stories that he loved to tell,
have vanished in a silent spell.
A withered leaf upon the sill,
against the winter’s heavy chill.

Cooler months, 2026

The air cools a little earlier now,
and the days settle into their slower shape.
People move through the streets with a kind of ease
that comes when the heat steps back.

I write from that steadiness.
Not to instruct,
not to lift a curtain on anything hidden,
but simply to meet you here,
in this season that asks less of us.

If a poem arrives,
let it be something you can walk into
without needing to know the layout.
A room with enough light to see by,
and enough quiet to stay as long as you like.

Ahavati

I’ve always said she’s been a voice of reason
When times got so befuddled and rough
She’s been an artistic inspiration
A lyrical sister who knows her stuff

She’s got a passion for…ars poetica
She has been supportive and perceptive
Even when others have tried her patience
She’s been up-front, honest and receptive

I remember discovering her works
Then she suggested readings and writers
It felt as if she pointed me to doors
Like an open library to outsiders

Single Forever

This heart is a revolving door
open and unstoppable.
A whirling juggernaut,
twisting minds and turning stomachs.

A palate of affection with great hunger.
My ravenous roaring appetite
sated by the smallest crumb of possibility.
Sweet dates overflow, with bitter Deja Vu.

Mountains revealed between lines of chit chat.
Casual dates end quickly at hello.
Being repelled by their instant attraction,
in my mind I'm already alone and home.
