the baron declares

"the baron's declaration"

The celebrated Munchhausen
announced to town council
that he had recently returned
from a perilous expedition
across the vast expanse
between the windowsill
and the fruit bowl.

He described the journey
as “gruelling,”
citing unpredictable terrain
(a crumpled napkin),
hostile wildlife
(a mildly curious sparrow),
and the treacherous crossing
of the Great Ceramic Plateau
(a strewn dinner plate).

He concluded his report
by presenting a souvenir:

A World Barely Missed

The gold sun fractures against the glass,
I sink into velvet, heavy and deep.
Where the barbed edges of the hours pass,
I surrender my bones to the venom of sleep.

I sink into velvet, heavy and deep,
as the walls dissolve into violet mist.
I surrender my bones to the venom of sleep,
leaving a world that I barely missed.

As the walls dissolve into violet mist,
pulse-tides surge through my mind.
Leaving a world that I barely missed,
where the clocks of reality shatter and grind.

Pulse-tides surge through my mind,

The way of man

Cold and desperate hungry and alone. The heat is off and no one's home. There's no food in the cupboard , no socks or shoes for my feet , but there's guns and drugs and homeless sexual deviant predators , trolling my street.

Only 8 years old when I learned, sometimes even the good guys are bad. And if you get caught talking to the wrong crooked cop, you'll end up a corpse stuffed in a bag.

Dumped in the Mississippi or left in the alley. Another casualty of society, a nameless faceless, nobody just another Cold Case to be forgotten.

Star Bound - A Tribute to Joshua Bond

Poets, they may come and go

While others are here to stay

And though some you’ll never know

The ones you meet…change your fate

Such were my travels when I was Deep Underground

The harder side of poetry was never the same

When I met a man from Portugal, Mr. Bond

With poetic skill and craft worthy of world fame

And for years the ideas and thoughts he conveyed

Gave me a new perspective when it comes to verse

His collection of works can delve into the soul

Bury a Giant

How do you bury a giant?

corral a myth—

wipe a slate clean.

How do you

change belief,

worship in peace—

censure false prophets.

How do  you

impugn the diabolical,

Bear false witness

Betray a neighbour—

Attack. Abuse. Disown

Can you teach me?

Mother.

Father.

Nobody's Hero

Nobody's Hero

It used to be easy to read peoples'

minds, travel roads, without sight,

 find my way through time,

Now, lately,

out of nowhere,

I am going blind.

And, since, I have not,

for such a long time,

used my eyes to see,

They have shriveled,

in their sockets,

rendering them

useless to me.

I am crippled,

in ways,

I never expected,

Before, I could

view the world,

and other,

No winners in this game

The TV's staying off
As I just want to shout.
Has the world gone crazy?
What's all this hate about?

Social media is no better,
Toxic droning pushed around.
See the persistent aggression,
Like angry rabid hounds.

And I wonder at the point,
Were they waiting in the wings?
For such a proper moment,
To hurl their words that sting.

Or perhaps like robots,
Programmed to spout their hate.
Either way it sucks,
This antithesis of great.

The Trials of a Poet

The Trials of a Poet

The husband how he scoffs and sneers,

on all my writing, inky tears.

When I wax dark he rolls his eyes,

mutters morbid, without disguise.

Our son you see, he takes my side,

praises my work, sings his mother’s pride.

But husband taunts and shakes his head.

Impatience speaks, my work misread.

I warn him time and time again,

that one dank day, I’ll lift my pen.

Immortalise his ways in rhyme.

Where Summer and Winter Meet

The golden sun descends on silver frost,
two bleeding seasons dance upon the line.
Where burning summer heat is paid and lost,
the icy breath of darkness makes them twine.

A trembling bloom of fire, pure and white,
descends to meet the landscape down below.
Her burning touch ignites the freezing night,
to kiss the pale domain of falling snow.

Though destiny decrees they must depart,
an endless love is burned into their mind,
and tears their fleeting, earthly lives apart,
they leave a living legacy behind.

Bring me Eggs

Can you pick up some eggs on your way home?

I haven’t heard from you in a while, how have you been?

Sorry, that wasn’t for you.

That’s okay, I hope you’ve been good. Who’s coming home? Do you still live at your parents, or have you moved in with someone new?

I really don’t want to talk to you.

I understand, I know I messed up. I still think of you often. I miss you.
