My favorite hat is a bottle top. [October Contest]

I wear an iridescent cape
Of oily feathers around my nape
And though every turn I seem to shine
One thing I cannot do is fly.

I also wear a translucent necklace
But as of late it leaves me breathless.
As I cannot breathe and cannot fly;
There is naught left to do but die.

My friend the fish his home is dead.
The bleached white corals where humans tread,
He seeks to live beyond their clutch.
But there’s nowhere humans haven’t touched.

Vintage

I met a lady today -
a throwback,
an actual lady
who curtsied
and offered her hand
anticipating a gentlemanly kiss.

She wore handmade clothes;
I swear she must have attended finishing school.
I've never seen anything like it.
She walked in
like I'd watched in the old detective movies
the great black and whites
of the 1940s.

And I was taken back
so I didn't know how to respond
but to bow ever slightly in acknowledgment.

MAKE ME BLUSH....Romantic for a CHANGE

if only I was a bit younger
the hunger would have been
quenched
Lovers poetry

When love is in the air
who can but dare
not to blush
oh it’s all
a
hush, hush

make me blush
if only I was a bit younger
the hunger
would have been quenched
there wouldn't have been any danger
of being drenched.
but then that's a simple desire
an impossible conjecture
in which none of us
today can venture
so blushing alone
be your adventure

Breath

I was walking in a glade
lost in the gentle sound of water
cascading over the terrain
bare feet caressed by silt
a remainder of what once was rock
I knew history leaves a mark of which I would be a part
stepping out I touched a tree fallen to the ground
made me wonder if anyone had heard the sound
I stepped in the water again
it wasn't the same
neither was my breath

On tide slowing time.

Webbing the worlds of threading tides
we watched as the rocks exploded
with a thousand shards of diamonds
ignition by virtue of a sun ripe sky

You sat on rocks, I pondered pools
the blue green azure, pure jewels
of millennia formed, layered and hewn
rocks the might of sea could not belie

All the sun day long, I wished
that this would last an eternity
and the sea would blast, and the sea
would seethe and sigh, while all above us
endless light, where birds climbed

Accountability

Will our children ask, “Why didn’t you act?” Al Gore

Perhaps when it all comes out in the open,
All the white lies, the little lies, the epic lies,
Of how we responded to the crying planet,
All will be said in a courtroom of compassion.
The lawyers remove their heavy wigs
And plead my case of guiltiness-

Scent

sometimes I feel
like an abandoned
hatchling
that God is too afraid
to touch

for fear he’ll leave his scent
and the other birds
will shun me
and I’ll die
an outcast

sometimes I feel
like God became
a man
with my very scent
just to
save me

but do I have
the nose
the acumen
to follow his
scent trail?

man & divine?
body

& sensible spirit?

Autumn Fever Again

Autumn fever
autumns come and go

your voice beckons me now
to my backyard
where each autumn
I compose a poem

leaves of yore since forgotten
trampled by winds crushing speed
up into the air leaves are blown
high above the trees
where beyond
they could never have reached

ere there had been no autumn
the colors manifests on my mind’s wire
as I see myriads of them
my drooping eyes admire

Smile Yes All must (Modern Poetry is?)

Brevity and Essence
of conveyance
makes modern poetry

A poem
shot out like an arrow
to shoot the moon
as did the ancients
well just imagine
what will modern humans
use
to bring down the sun

You are very lucky today
at least one
could pass your way
be enlightened
SMILE
surely you may
as along the pathway
you sway

Troubled ways

There in the silence I found rest
Here in the turmoil of life I see love
Listen to the leaves turning brown
Hear the dawn chorus stilled by season

Reflections of being in a space of peace
Give me the rushing waters of mind
Tell me of those disruptive times
Where stability was out of kilter

Send me the values of disruptive thought
Talk with me of shattered dreams
Hear me when I whisper that all is well
Give me space to join in your hell
