Haikookas

Haikookas

lone kookaburra
laughs without hesitation
his own audience

spring

tears streaming cheekwards
signify not winters loss
but wind and pollen

summer

mosquito frantic
squealing when caught in my beard
I slap my face hard

sticky sleepless nights
rise to blearily embrace
stark sun overhead

autumnal cherries

sweet juices spurt sourly
down my throat welcomingly
seeds spat gratefully

vee stem and two pips
on rumpled sheet abandoned
the feeling lingers

winter

walking tall in rain
I don't get any wetter
or any colder

I LOVE the subtlety of this write, it say so much in a compact w

Jess, as an Aussie this is a joy, recognizing so many of our signature conditions, irresistibly pleasurable from that perspective, but there seems to be an underlying sadness or something (I am guessing here, or at least trying to put my finger on what it is in reserve here... which is also appealing I must add). I love the last lines, I think it is there more than anywhere I find a stoic kind of tragedy that remains hidden & unspoken... I may be wrong but it's what it makes me feel, I LOVE the subtlety of this write, it say so much in a compact way. Well deserving of Spotlight, & good to see this great writing here again. Ta Anni,

I also get a buzz from Aussie references. Very insightful you are. There is an underlying sadness/stoicism here but I'm not going to explain it. Perhaps the phrase "trudging the path of happy destiny" may give you a clue. Cheers, Jess, whose nature is irrepressible

Dear Jess-Elf, you have covered the seasons brilliantly. Very colorful. I guess many agree with that as your poem has captured the spotlight. I missed you terribly, welcome back with a big hug! Always, Cat

ta Molly, Cat

the problem with covering the seasons in Sydney is that there is not much difference between them, apparently a bit like LA, and most of our trees are not deciduous or brightly flowering. Cheers, Jess, whose nature is irrepressible

You're back

man! I thought I was going to have to hunt you down! There will be more honesty on this site, that much I'm sure of. Gorgeous little piece, with the freedom and repetition ("spring", "summer", "autumnal cherries") characteristic of you! Welcome back my friend.

aussie flavour is the best

aussie flavour is the best taste... i like the way this is strung together, each haiku complete in itself, yet lending itself to the series. spring snd summer gave me a wry smile as i am a hayfever sufferer...and have spent many a summers' night in a lather (and not from anything enviable) the last haiku, in particular the first line, changed the tone of this for me. what was a poem of seasons, became something personal... i don't know exactly what, but a feeling of sadness or something crept in. "walking tall in rain"...that line just feels like there's something behind it. don't mind me...i tend to woffle on the wrong track! sp; squealing. very much enjoyed this poem. cheers p

its interesting how few

and how many, detected that there was something here beyond 7 separate haiku/senryu's. Yes, just a hint of the strange land I currently find myself in. Cheers, Jess, whose nature is irrepressible

And here I though squeeling

And here I thought squeeling was a Brit/Aussie spelling since no one else had mentioned it. Lol. I love your *woffling*, Pleiades almost as much as Elfie's poem. ~A Don’t let your victories go to your head, or your failures go to your heart.

Everybody else obviously knows, but I'm a bit challenge so I must ask. What's the meaning of Haikookas, kookaburra. ~~~~~~~~~ Be whoever you are At all times, and Remember that Because of this, people will Always Respect, and Admire you ©2008Leonard Respectfully Yours, Barbara

haiku and kooka (short for kookaburra) You'll kick yourself I know, but we all get to feel a bit challenged at times. 8) Cheers, Jess, whose nature is irrepressible

Cool Jesse!

I see you've made some changes since I read it. The cherries are sexier and Winter in the first person. I like that much better, didn't understand why you used second person anyway. Gives the whole thing more cohesion and illuminates the feelings behind it. You're a clever old bastard. Love it! always, Aeron
