Roots

I am the sum of an equation, Love +family +friends +education.
Mashed together. Compacted into one.
I am the, foundation. Root of the tree.
That holds the past, present and future legacy of my family Together.
I bind the coils of lost relations so the spine that maintains stability never weakens
and pulls apart.
I am Black American.
However my pedigree can be traced back to Africa
I have longed to set sail in the ocean of the Atlantic
To step foot in the sand trotted by the Zulu, Ashanti and Yoruba

Nocturne

You searched for clouds that wouldn’t sing your praise
You entered the windows the wind wouldn’t search for…
….Blind Moons used your nocturnal voice for a staff.
And the humbled birds of paradise are perched
apon the fiery cross of your bloody brow.
Your eyes play with the light of day.
And on your trembling lips the bitter taste
of sour wine drunk on nights without love.
Between dreams and memories
Hangs the bitter fruit of your love
-An anxious kiss
on the lips of insanity.
Removed and placed further away.

Life, Prejudices, Vices

Life, Prejudices, Vices
Challenges, obstacles roll with puches or get knock out!!!!
Time out sit in the corner pray, gotta get up tough
Faith without works is dead.

Worldy fighters, don’t wrestle though
1-2-3 comes just like that
can’t fight one’s flesh never ending battle
turn the other cheek instead

body blow, body blow,
a setback…adversity
in the midst of it all… gotta lean on HIS hands
the world sometimes isn’t a friend…..

It’s a cold world and this is life, gotta go till
My “home” is finished

The First Time

The first time
I saw you
I fell in love…
in love with your beatiful eyes.
The first time
I talked to you
I fell in love…
in love with your sweet voice.
The first time
you held me
I fell in love…
in love with your warm embrace.
The first time
we kissed
I fell in love…
in love with your soft lips.
The first time
you said I Love You
I fell in love…
inlove with you.

Dark Star

The raining light reached desolately
within the shadow of her full moon.

And as the stars cried conspicuously
she brazed my heart with her silence.
The wind pondered upon a sad melody of enchantments for the dark star.
However she remained silent without
remorse.
All the constellations within heaven
gathered to give her the last prayer.
O dark star
God shall miss your
Light.

Rep His

…on her doorstep as he
penetrated her pencil in the sheets of slain trees…
Penned a few words on a paper
But erased them a few minutes later
Because she needs censorship
Especially when her hand writes words and does not grasp the concept
of control
But she needs to write, so she starts to write and suddenly the truth begins to unfold…………
That forgiveness need not be the answer because sht keeps perpeutatin
Allowin us to fall victim to dejavu
And these destructive situations

Decipher

Where are you when my writing doesn’t rhyme
The most simplistic line is the beholder of the concept everyone is suppose to
understand, comprehend, know, grasp or get
yet, not written in long fulfilling sentences but in 1 word paragraphs and phrases

My writing is not assonance or alliteration
Metaphors and similes are like the ideas of alien residing on earth to plan the assassination of cartoon characters
especially the symbolic meaning of the elephant and donkey
It is no longer an It

I Follow You

Mere words cannot express the love and acceptance
You have brought to my longing heart.
This is not the rule game that I follow.
This is not a ‘religious’ facade.
I follow You,
The Lover of my soul.
For You have made me whole.

Alone

The woman sits alone in a fragrant field on a starlit night.
Her wondering eyes take in the vastness
Of the universe and all of its splendor.
The sliver of a moon only magnifies the infinite shimmering stars.
And she ponders on the meaning of it all.
She wonders if it is better to belong to the mass at any cost
Or to stay true to herself and live what she believes.
She chooses the latter.
After all:
It is only herself that she has to live with
And it is only herself that she will have to die with.
And finally:

The Old Mare 'Rose'

The old mare is weary for trying to survive.
Thick, solid muscles have turned into bones
With a thin coat of tired flesh.
The atrophy of her muscles has settled on a body
That longs to die to ease the pain.
The flame of light and life long ago left her beautiful, dark, liquid eyes.
Her spirit is broken.
I ask the owner "Why aren’t you feeding her?"
He gives me an arrogant, stupid sort of reply
That does not even merit the space to write it down on.
But Rose and I have a secret.
She will eat today and every day that I see her.
