These Roots Go Down at Least a Mile Under the Sidewalk

A few weeks back
- what must have been five, or six
even though it felt more like two
I went to the tree lawn in front of work
with the most ridiculous tools;
a flathead screw driver, and a box cutter
and dug up as many weeds as I could find.

Because it had rained, the dirt gave way easily enough,
and the plants came out easily enough,
by the root.
Or so it seemed.

Summer Fun

Wow
Summer again was cold all along
a young chick remains glued to mom's tits he adorns
pair of sibling’s, young ones pulls each other’s hair for fun
Mom and pop are sunning at the beach
preparing for another summer’s lasting memorable one (for fun)

young upcoming teens wish to brush lips often
as they cross the permissible age
their love entwined has begun

another couple is smiling
the coming one is kicking her tummy
what a funny feeling

My Mom, My Moon (Sunku)

Pizza
and apple pie
that's ambrosia

Showers
of blessings
are cleansing home

Her face
resembles
that of the moon's.

Etymology

on a blank piece of paper, a pen is poised
the ink waits in awe, to spill out of the nib
paper gets filled, ink runs out, pen is history
thought finds words which long for eyes
eyes meet words, words form images
images turn to expressions
telegraphing a story, a poem. a song, a tribute...
which remain etched like runes
or forgotten like the paper pen and ink
mere entities obscured by time

Things You Can't Do In The Rain (or The Rainiest Summer Ever)

You can’t build a
Sand castle
In the rain

You can’t get
Your vitamin D
Unless it’s a Wilma or a Fred
Or a Bam Bam
(Or a tuna sandwich)

You probably shouldn’t
Swing a golf club
Or fix the satellite antenna
On your roof

Rain is for foosball
Or billiards
Or Madden

Made-for-tv movies
(And yes,
Sometimes rugby)

You can’t wear face paint
In the rain

Or get your hair done
(Without something silly,
Like a newspaper,
To cover your head,

The Sky's Gifted Expanse

If I'm honest,
I'm looking for love
like a sunrise.

Something to light up
my whole sky,
bring color
to my dawn.
Something that feels
inevitable.

But if I am
such a lover
of the light,

shouldn't I be looking
in the night?

Bring my
half-glass-full
to one who is
thirstier
than I?

Perhaps we can meet
in the middle,
in the afternoon
when the sun
is highest
in the sky,

Control

My hand aches for my phone
But I must stay in control
I want to text you a novel
And let it all unfold

I want to tell you why I’m angry
Why I don’t respond
But a part of my mind whispers
The chair doubt sits upon

He has the power
To rethink every step
Untype a. Message
Never to be sent
Words never to be kept

Rendition [Sunku]

on keys
of a piano
are finger prints

playing
heart touching
musical notes

some hide
their fingers
behind white gloves
