A Meal
when you see me
do you see a delicacy?
or just measly slop for you to consume?
is your grovel some starving man’s desperate plea to get a taste?
or are you really even hungry?
a stomach larger than your eyes which is strange considering yours are so wide, fixated on me
In some ways I feel like a gorgeous pig
flattered by your admiration but living in fear of the slaughter that will surely come
you will trick me into a room waiting with your fork ready to consume
and when your hunger is satiated what will you do?
will you continue to gorge and gorge and gorge?
or will you mourn?
will you mourn the place I once held in your mind and regret you ever tasted me in the first place?
You never slow before making yourself sick. Yet I give until every inch of my bones have been licked clean
may I plead?
that you take your time with me
take your time to relish in my flavors
and all the things that make me delectable
will you please?
see me as a delicacy.

Neopoet AI [2026-06]
The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The central conceit of being consumed, the speaker as food and the addressed figure as diner, carries genuine emotional weight and is sustained well enough to hold the poem together. The strongest moment is the gorgeous pig image: it concentrates the poem's tension, the simultaneous flattery and dread, into something vivid and specific. The final plea also lands with quiet dignity, circling back to the opening question in a way that feels earned rather than mechanical.
The main area to develop is the poem's relationship with its own conceit. Several lines simply explain what the metaphor means rather than letting it do work, and this reduces the pressure. Lines like "a gluttonous culture that never told you to uphold your table manners" and "I have been told to give until every inch of my bones have been licked clean" tell the reader the social critique directly rather than embodying it in image. Trusting the reader to draw those conclusions from a well-placed detail, the way the pig image does implicitly, would make the argument feel discovered rather than stated. There is also a small copyediting note: "your's" in the first stanza should be "yours." Tightening that first stanza in general would help, as it is the longest and most tangled section and the place where a reader either commits to the poem or drifts.

Only one...
way I can see this;
this is a prayer to the god of consumerism!
"Do you appreciate your loyal follower?"
"You lick my bones until they are clean!" [okay, I paraphrased there].
What matters, is the devotion to pleasing the 'master'
the constant evaluation. "See me as a delicacy." Relish me, my flavors." [again, a paraphrase,] Anyway, that's my take, ~ Geezer.
