Per Mari [in English] Rewritten

Per mari….

[Through seas: dedicated to my grand parents who brought my soul to America]

On ships through many seas

I sail seeking my destiny

Searching for a better way

All I love and know

I leave behind

Never to return again

To the ends

Of this earth I will go

Sick in my heart

Sad in my soul

Alone

On ships through to places unknown

I sail seeking my destiny….

Hi Joe,Hugs of love from

Hi Joe, Hugs of love from another weary traveler who sails the same horizon. ~ The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected. G.K. Chesteron

I agree, wonderful. Can you imagine the sight of coming to a new country to begin again with little. I think it is amazing. Immigrant stories are interesting, great family stories. raskin

This is not a positive poem.

Ann of Norway There must also be an element of hope and joy of seeing and finding new places new adventures and people to share this world with, even though the heart beats faster at the mention of the homeland and always will. I cannot imagine myself leaving and at the same time wishing not to leave, somehow I would make it possible to stay if it meant so much to me. I longed for Norway in Britain, and have to pinch myself sometimes to make sure its real!! My time in GB is with me and always will be, but it would not be the same places to go back to, I have moved on and created my niche in the world of Norway and learnt to understand its voice, its ways and its people, and as you know its nature; I came of my own free will and not for a person, just for the country itself. Many Norwegians left reluctantly, as they couldn't make a living on their tiny farms enough to live, the cold winter's were gaunt and the scrapings meagre, they sailed in hope of better things, but many longed to come home again, then why didn't they at a later date. perhaps because they had created families there in the West, the wild west so they had to dream to play their instruments and dance their dances teach the people around them of the treasures that are Norway. There are more Norwegians in the states than there are in Norway!!!!! Love Annuccia.

J.B. Longo-GeremiaAnuccia, I

J.B. Longo-Geremia Anuccia, I only speak of what I know. The immmigrants of the late 1890’s and early 1900’s had little choice but to leave in order to survive some place. My maternal grandmother came from a family of 7 children; my paternal grandmother, eight Fortunately, Rosa Filippelli was able to return several times to see her mother, sisters and brothers-- my grandfather Geremia made good money here. My grandfather Longo was not so fortunate. A dfferent time,l a different generation--ships not planes. Longings....

Capito veramente!

Ann of Norway I do understand and it must have been so dire, so wrenching the heart and the senses must have been knocked numb and unbelieving. You sure give it the right atmosphere and force us to sense the same with your words, you have a way with words! :) You do too. The Norwegians were similarly afflicted as I said, they too wrote poetry and songs of this time that have become a part of Norwegian literature. I hope though, that they found love and happiness within their hearts in spite of it, where we are is what we make it to be n'est pas? Love as aye Annuccia.XO
