Red Roses On The Label...

Nights of terror... screams and shouts

The scent of alcohol and fear

I wanted to save my mother, and kill my father

I was too little, and he was a raging demon

Daylight seemed eons away

Morning light did nothing to erase mother's bruises

I stayed in bed until the creak and thump of his wooden-leg was gone

Hurried breakfast, and off to school

I slept through lunch, and couldn't focus on fractions

He was funny, and a nice guy 'till he drank too much

Which was every day

They all participated... some through acceptance

The bar-man who unlocked the door, for opening round at 7 a.m.

His cronies, buying drinks

The foreman who held his nose, and looked the other way

The cops who let him sleep it off on the side of the road

My mother, because she didn't have the strength to leave him

And me, because I was too little...

Thanks ...

Ithink you are right, I was thinking of the scent of booze and the scent of fear, but I think it reads better this way. I'm hoping that there are other men out there who have had their own trials such as mine. Maybe they will write of them. It isn't just the women who suffer. I'm not trying to minimize their experiences, just show there are more sides to the story. ~ Gee

Just glad...

that I had some impact. I saw the notes and comments on Lou's poem, and the invite to the magazine article, and thought that there might be room for a few from the male and child point of view. I know that I was, and am not alone. There are too many people affected by the scourge of addiction. Thank you for your vote and understanding. Love and higgest bugs, ~ Gee

Poem blog the most intimate of scar not aired for nought but sun and wind the scars of freedom my freind today I saw on a shelf cooking wine with almost twenty per cent and dirt cheap like buying the pennies for the eyes like buying a bag of nails for the coffee coloured coffin carried by the willing when no one else will theres a poem for you Intensely beautiful in its gnarled refractions like mandolins on the wind and the clock blinks another a.m. hour must go Thank You Esker~
