The Hammer

Time was,
when drift of storm
shattering imeasurable across
the rim of Earth
would lure me,
implaccably,
into open waiting darkness
breathless with hot power
from the hammer of the red-haired god,
irresistable in strength,
His laughter rumbling thunder,
His presence a place
delighting
where I often wandered
eager and afraid,
with open mind and heart
searching for the slash
of moment's blue-white
radiance to crash into
my world,
delivering a  freedom
welcomed as enlightenment,
as searing as a lover's ecstacy
of infinite,

And still I find Him so
in my reluctant aging,
lowering across my path
and home
when late spring skies
boil thunderous
through long night stained by city,
the stinging rain
His fiery hair against my skin,
the howl of wind His grin of joy,
and the sparks
Mjollnir cracks
from striking world
flash down from His eternal hand
revealing the old walnut tree
as Yggdrasil
pure brilliance framed in darkness,
limned with my belief
and faith
in ancient sacredness

yet though I welcome Him
as ever I have done
and will,
I no longer seek my
understanding
beneath the
tender smash of hammer,
for long ago He took
that old desire from me
with gentle taps of Mjollnir
light enough to grant me
wisdom without death,
and now, although I
always stand upon the brink
of power watching
strength and nature's justice
march across the hidden stars
and cowering humanity
I am content to merely
know His passing,
to stand before His raging joy
and understand
that when my time is finally done
He will return
to take me to eternity.

For now, although I
still love to face His presence
He has replaced
my old desires with new,
my fear with hope,
my bitterness with satisfaction
and this strangeness known
as Future,
in the form of
our two growing sons,
our shining joy of daughter,
and you.

LOL

Learning wisdom under the tender ministrations of the thunder god's hammer hurts like hell, I don't recommend it, LOL. Get better Jayne, get well. Respectfully Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Another strong write Jim

Brilliant. This girl must be really special to inspire such great poetry...and keeps the dark side at bay...just kidding...I know you're not the demon that you portray yourself as...you're just so good at writing about the dark side of human nature. Rosina xena465

Rosina

LOL Is she special? She puts up with ME! Patient, strong, smart, and doesn't take one iota of bullshit from anyone, particularly myself. Yeah, I guess she is special. I am that demon no longer. Largely due to her. Unfortunately, I really did use to be that demon. I'm good at writing about the dark side of human nature because I once embraced that darkness with open arms, lol. But no more. Thank you for your enjoyment Rosina, it is my pleasure. Respectfully Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Poetry

jim, To be to the point. I say this was a poem worth the read. You kept my mind to bleed. Yet wanting more. So you understand at least a fraction of my gray. I myself write of war as well as flowers. What the heck from time to time a short story. Yes it is hard to place quill to parchment when holding a gun in my hand and hate in my soul.LOL. Well done with this one as it makes even the soldier think. SAKKK.

Thanks SAKKK

Yes, I think we all have war upon our hearts, soldiers or not. It seems to be ingrained, and I find that the old gods work better than the new, when it comes to integrating instinct for battle and warfare into a settled, peaceful life. Thanks for reading, and enjoying. Respectfully Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Jim, Kudos

Well done sir. Although it was long and I felt needed a few more breaks, I found myself carried along with it to the end. Usually, one this long doesn't hold my attention all the way through. This one did. Besides being good, that is an accomplishment within itself! *L* Good job sir! Respectfully, Rett: “Anyone who sacrifices liberty for security deserves neither.” Benjamin Franklin
