Walls
Part One: Invisible Girl
Cara walked the halls of her school blinded she saw nothing and felt nothing outside of her own body. She was teased and made fun of for the way she dressed. That awful black t-shrit and those terible jeans were so out of date. Her family had practicaly disowned her they didn't speak at all infact they hardly even looked at eachother. Cara had but 2 friends a small raggety doll whos button eyes had fallen off long ago and stitching was coming undone called Pipo. The other an abandoned dog that wandered the streets near her home. Her mother reconized it as nothing more than a stray and chased it off when it walked by, but no matter how far her mother chased it or how hard she kicked it the dog would always come back. She admired its courage and befriended the dog she named him Sam. Still she had no real friends. Cara was one of those people who would normaly complain that they have nothing to live for but she didn't complain. She liked her life actualy she was comfortable with it, and that was all thanks to one thing. Her wall the wall that kept all her emotions in and kept everyone elses out.
Part Two: Jealousy
The first time Cara every saw his face she fell apart, although no one else could see it she was coming unglued. His face was flawless his eyes the darkest shade she'd ever seen but still so beautiful. His hair shaggy blonde his muscles so defined he was lovely in an unimaginable way. But he oh so quickly became popular captian of the basket-ball team and rather than being the nice girl that sits next to him in history she just became another random person in the crowd.*clank* and the first brick fell.
Part Three: Shyness
The day came that she finaly got the courage to speak to him or rather was forced to as she was assigned to be his partner for a science project. But she didn't mind at all from across the room he shot her a friendly grin, stood and walked gracefully to the seat beside her. She clutched Pipo tightly in her arms and turned her head slightly shying away*Clank* the second brick. "So what were we supose to do again?" his angels voice sang.
"Nothing inparticular it is a science fair after all."Cara replied
"Oh right, " he corrected himself ,"Then what do you want to do?"
"Well i had a few ideas but im not sure you'll like any of them," Cara admitted.
He seemed to dislike the way she shot down all of his attempts to start a conversation. "Oh!" he said " I just realized I haven't introduced myself I'm Mason" he put a welcoming hand out for her to shake.
"Cara" she tried to ignor the hand but he only pushed it closer so she grasped his palm with two fingers and shook it. He did his best to contain his laughter."Why don't we just build a baking soda volcanoe?"
"Okay,"he grinned.
Part Four: Bravery
They decided to meet at her house on Tuesday it wasn't quite the first date she had planed but still it was a chance to be with him, alone. She dressed in her favorite most comfortable shirt and shorts something she would never where to school or in public at all. He apeared in her doorway like he said at exactly seven o' clock. her mother got to the door before she could and swung it opened suprised by the wide eyes of a such a handsome young man. Suddenly her gaze switched to the large dog at his side. "You again!" she said lifting the broom in her hand the dog turned to run from her as she chased it off the porch and around in circles in the front yard. Masson half turned to watch but then spotted Cara from the corner of his eye.
"Hello" she said trying to mimick his song like voice.
"Hey" his words coming out so beautifuly she couldn't stand it.
"Uhm you can-" her voice trailed off.
"Come in " he finished for her steping inside.Cara nodded and began to lead him through the dingy house to her bedroom. She was sure he didn't live in a place like this. Once they got there they began working she had already set out all of they supplies they would need and it wasn't a hard project everyone had done it at one point or another. They worked in silence but finaly he found the courage to ask her something.
"Whats with that doll your always carrying around?" he asked.
"You mean Pipo you should call him by his name or you'll hurt his feelings."
"He's only a doll he doesn't have feelings."
Cara paused ,"He's is one of my only friends" she admitted.
"Welll you know why ,right?"
"No"
"It's because your always with him," he explained," people or age don't usualy carry around stuffed animals."
She understood what he was saying but didn't quite agree with the idea "So your saying I look childish when i carry him around ?"
"Yes" he agreed some what shamefully.
"Oh" Cara hung her head and sunk down in her spot on the too flufy bed.
"What if we went to the movies together right now" he said his voice implied making a deal ,"but" there it was ," you can't change and I'm not buying a ticket for Pipo."
"So",she paused trying to make sense of what he said ,"he can't come?"
"Nope" he shook his head.
They sat in the silence again for a moment he looked at her as she weighed the options. Then after what seemed like hours she spoke ,"Okay." *clank* the third brick. What would people think of the way she was dressed would Pipo be anrgy with her.
Part Five : Freedom
So they went to the movies and as expected Pipo was a bit angry with her but still she enjoyed herself and hoped he would invite her out again soon so the next day she left Pipo at home (after of course explaining that they had to go their seperate ways and would still see each other at home). When he spoted her in math he smiled and gave an aproving nod. She faintly smiled back remembering the empty space in her arms. After class a boy she had never noticed before came up to her.
"Hi I'm Jaccob," he said politely.
"Cara," she extended her hand repeating the actions of the last person who had greeted her ,"I'm sorry I've never noticed you before are you new?"
"Haha" his laugh was loud and frightened her but it still welcomed in some how it made her feel comfortable ,"No I'm not new haha I'm the class president you don't remember last year I came up to you and asked if you would vote for me and you said ' no' and kicked me."
"Oh sorry ," she said regretfully.
"Its okay," he said ,"Uhm me and a few other people were going to go to the mall this Friday and Iwas wondering if you would uh-"
"Let you borrow some money ?" she said.
"Huh! No no!" he seemed to be consentrating on his words ," I was wondering " he said loudly ," if you would want to come with us?" Was he asking her to be his date! Didn't everyone already know she and Mason were together?
"Uhm I'm- I can't sorry."
"Well even if you don't wanna be my date you can still go!" he called to the retreating Cara.
She turned and slightly tilted her head ,"I'd like that ."she smiled.
At the end of the day she met Jaccob outside of the school. He lead her to his car and opened the door for her "Uh," she hesitated. "I've never really been inside a car before at least not that I can remember."
He paused for a moment checking her face for any signs sarcasim then spoke starting agian with his humble laugh ,"Haha really? Oh well don't worry I'm a good driver it's all gonna be okay" he smiled at her and she reluctantly climbed into the beaten up old nissan. "Those aren't my fault" he swore noticing the way she was looking at one of the huge dents.
As they drove he talked on and on asking her sensless questions like her favorite song, color, excetera she answered promtly. It was a long drive but then again she had never been in a car or to the mall. when he finaly stoped in the parking lot she threw the door opened leaped out and fell to the ground forgeting just how close it was. He laughed again and his laugh was so sweet it made her feel better.
They met about 10 people once inside the mall most of them people who had spent their days teasing her so she stayed close to Jaccob. They walked through the mall talking, gosiping, and gawking at some of the novelty items they spoted. Every so often Jaccob would offer to buy her something but she politely declined. Suddenly she spoted Masson amidst the huge crowd and the talking among the group came to her a little more clearly.
"He said he would be a little late." a boy said trying to calm the girl beside him.
"Well it doesn't matter he should be here by now," another girl retorted.
"Hey, chill, theres no reason to freak out dude."
"Look there he is," pointed out the first guy.
"Oh well what do you know i guess strays are popular to day."
"Hey maybe they can play together," someone else laughed.
"Ya right Kel unless Jaccobs new pet has tried to start a fight before"
"Guys," Jaccob tried to quiet them.
"Relax Jake," said one girl scowled at him ,"I'm sure she aready knows what we think about her."
Usualy she would have responded to that but she had already gone off clinging to Masson as he aproached the rest of the group. She noted the saddened look in Jaccobs eyes but didn't pay it much mind. most of the rest of the day went on like that with her clinging to Masson's body. He looked uncofortable but tried not to say anything he made a few attempts to peel her off but she stayed right next to him the whole day.Finaly it came time to leave while they were deciding who would ride with who Masson quickly made everyone aware he was taking home the girl (Jennifer) that he had brought, and she smiled up at him. They eventualy came to the decicion that Cara would go back with Jaccob. She had wanted to go with Masson but still she was happy she had gone at all she had never felt more....free.*clank* On their way out of the parking lot she searched for Massons car she had never been inside of it but still she knew what it looked like. Then Cara noticed it near the exit. Her jaw droped as the details of the people inside became more clear.
Part 6: Happiness & Anger
Jennifer on the drivers side siting in his lap their lips pressed together his shirt was off and it exposed his perfect features. He was cheating on her! "Don't look ," Jaccob said shamefully " They do that every time they meet someone new he tried it with you ya know," a tear rolled down her cheek. He had to be lying. " They all all do that none of them actualy care if you people get hurt, but I really do like you," he added. "I have for a long time but when I saw Masson making a move I couldn't stand the thought of you geting hurt like that so I finaly asked you out."He opened his mouth to continue but she cut him off.
"Just take me home", she said through clenched teeth.*clank*
They rode in silence the rest of the way back. When they got to her house he walked her to the door and waited for her to unlock the it. Then he quickly pecked her on the cheek and retreated to his car she managed a weak smile even though she was still sobing. Had it been Masson she would have screamed and leaped for joy but it was only the boy she had met just today and some how she loved him, even if it was only as a friend she loved him.
Part 7:And Many More
She went straight up stairs to her room and curled up on her bed and wept. She wept for joy and saddness. Emotions swirled around her like a wild hurricane.*clank clank clank clak clank* it went on and on untill finaly she fell asleep.
Part 8: Saddness
The door-bell rang for Cara that morning. She unconciously sat up grabbing the pillow under her sleepy head and threw it but before she could release it her hand hit something rock solid she droped the pillow and it tumbled outside the wall clutching her hurt hand she began to explore her new confines she moved her hands across the smooth surface just enough room for her to lay down straight. Cara scooted to the edge of her bed and leaned back against the invisible wall which she fell straight through. "I can move?"
"Cara?" that was Jaccobs voice she stood up and stretched. When she did she realized that this thing (whatever it was) had a roof. She dressed and ran down stairs.
"Hey." she said dodging his hug.
"Hi I was wondering if you'd like a ride to school."
"Uhm no it's not that far I can walk."
"Oh then I'll walk with you."
"No! I mean uh you have a car , drive it's not like we won't see each other there."
"Oh well okay,"he said and left.
"Now why didn't you let that nice boy give you a ride?" her mom asked annoyed. There must be nothing more she wants in the world than for me to move out or die Cara thought and in a way she was kind of right.
"Don't ask,"she said and walked right out the door. She went to school that day some how managing to stay a safe distance from everyone aparently her little wall could shrink when it was nessasry.
She made it all the way to science class and thats where she noticed Masson and Jennifer together. It hurt her more than she had ever imagined it would she wanted to fall to her knees and cry but she couldn't so she stayed strong.*clank* (the last brick)
After a short while she noticed that the air inside her wall had warmed a little then breathing became harder she tried not to make so much noise but it didn't take long untill she was panting gasping for breath. She was dying. There was no air in her lungs, she couldn't breath aparently gases couldn't pass though the wall. She fell to the floor Jaccob ran over to help her but was kept out by the wall."What is the meaning of all of this!" screamed her teacher, gasps of fear escaped the lips of people all over the room .All Cara could hear was Jaccobs beating on the wall and all she could see was Masson and Jennifers hands holding one another under the desk. Then one true tear fell. Not a happy tear or an angry one or a just for no reason one, but a sad tear. Sad because it had to end this way before she could do anything with her life. And then... it was over. Her body was still the wall slowly came down and Jaccob cried .He lifted her body in his arms and cried. The classroom fell silent.
For the girl no one had ever bother to speak to it was over. "What will people say at her funeral?" was the first foolish question asked. But not many people spoke they just watched. Jaccob went home early that day and no body ever saw him again he just diapeared. And to this day not a single person knows where Cara was burried because nobody cared. no body cared about the girl who had always lived inside a wall. She will forever remain her own prisoner
