THOU DUST

Thou Dust

And the shadows covered my mind, their drapes moving slowly,

Revealing, concealing, moments in my past, some beautiful, some sad.

I, floating about like stirred dust, the dust of decisions made

And bonds broken, aimless now, as if finds new surfaces to rest on,

Or is caught by a sudden wind and whistled out into the unknown,

Hesitating in the warm sunbeams, to do its usual dance,

A dance with no choreography, a dance of chance directions

Over the map of our lives, the home, the country, familiar things,

To caress close to, the books of memories in the archives of history.

The dust that clogs the pores of plants, shades their breath, their thirst,

or covers all with dirt and makes the fine, the ugly, uniform;

All similar in colour and expression, shrouded in the stuff of ages,

Those tomes of human endeavours rendered grey,

Until the youth of the next generation

Lifts up the covers and finds treasures of our past.

As being older, we look both backward and forward

Back to bask in wonders of youthful joy,

Forward with trepidation at future decay,

And ageing wistfully as the dust not yet defined, explained, understood,

The dust that’s always with us in life, in death, a part of all that is.

Those tiny particles that are made up of all that is,

Just as we ourselves are tiny particles of the universe,

We come and go,

Perhaps;

We are here, we have always been here

Just like the dust.

“Dust to dust” So be it.

Unfinished pictures, just the edges of the whole

Ann of Norway On my dust rising and falling into the mind's eye with the regularity of no dying, no disappearing from this world. You say such lovely things to me, I nearly always feel that my thoughts that come like this are mere beginnings, unfinished pictures just the edges of the whole, and that they must be developed into greater theories of life in time. So when you seem to state that they have reached their aim, where then is the goading for continuing that theme, when already beside the door through which they entered my consciouness, are a hundred other thoughts, just clamouring for pride of place in this so full and muddled mind of mine. Thank you dear Jayne, kind Anna and sweet magic Mona, you are the sugar in my coffee.

In you is the flight of

In you is the flight of birds - both air and wing. In you is the texture of wind and the form of the bending grass. The music of a word, and the unfolded flowers at the awaited call of spring and dust shall be their food to root them into the new day.A masterpiece. B

Anne

If you are going to "develop" this, then please do me a favor... Develop this by writing another, because this poem needs nothing else. Often, I find poems on Neopoet that I read, and say "Now that was a good poem." Sometimes, I find some poems that I bookmark, and say "Wow, that was great." And once in a great while, I find a piece of pure timeless delight that transports me to places evocative, emotionally transcendent, and filled with a wealth of absolutely beautiful imagery and meaning. A work of art that almost leaves me speechless. Guess, Anne of Norway, which of these three I found today, in your poem. Communication through poetry gives life a whole new dimension

Ann of Norway You race 9togo, have raced into the dust and taken on another shape and meaning, how can one respond to SUCH a comment? You are like a most beautiful vision rising out above the blue frost mist that hangs here in the valley above Oslo right now, you loom. And there you write such words in the sky with your cloud of dust that I swoon (well it rhymed!!) I didn't swoon although I was very flattered but most of all pleased that you could feel and float with my thoughts so well, that is worth more than a thousand spotlights is it not? The possibility of communication through poetry gives life a whole new dimension of meaning, and one senses instead of pain and hurt, a latent joy, that blooms through the dust of dilemmas. You are such a bloom-now that rhymes too!!! I see you are a man with horns and protect your woods with great calm and grace, I admire that too, as in nature we have such magical wonders. I thank you profusely for your most wonderful comment and will in no way develop this poem, as you say, instead create a new one, or ten new ones on the same theme should the idea crystallise into those thoughts. THANK YOU or sharing my poem with me and great respect for you from this old dame in the snow. AND last but not least I thank ALL here you are stalwart friends and I would not have had such a rich retirement without your gems of poetry and kind feelings of regard towards me, I feel a bit 'prektig' or hifalutin so had better return to terra firma and say love to you all, all, all ann.

This is beautiful :) Its one

This is beautiful :) Its one of those poems that, unlike other poems, you continue to think about after you've read it. Some of the concepts are magnificent and despite the large amount of different themes in there it flows really nicely :) x
