ON THE WINGS OF A KLUTZ

A po-EMON THE WINGS OF A KLUTZ

[A satire on me }

I had awoken

This early morn

To a bitter Winter’s chill.

Dawn had not yet broken

As I made my way

Quietly and carefully across

The bedroom floor

I had done this so many times before.

One step down to the porch was my destination

And this day

Was

To be my destiny

I missed the step in front of me

Anticipation to be where I wanted to be

The curse of impatience

The need for immediacy!

But then

I  Flew across this tiny space

On the wings of a klutz.

A flying Wallenda

Minutes before the fall.

The ecstasy of speed

Then the splatter...

What  goes up must come down

That’s Nature’s way.

My ruby red lips kissed the newly washed floor

As I flew out of the bedroom door

My ass said hello

To the washing machine

Always a friend

Never an enemy

Until this fateful day.

But before I arose

I rolled over and my head caressed

The Venetian blinds

Hanging to the left

Waiting there to witness

My humiliation.

A collusion of inanimate objects

Come to do me in.

What sin was mine

I wondered

To have endured this loss

Of  dignity?

Dehumaniziation unkind

For one moment I even became

One

With a damned Venetiain blind.

Yet

When all is said and done

I did see that world from upside down

And that was fun

Still

I almost broke my face

If not by His holy grace

Butt

My ass was safe

Hard as nails

Fit to repel

Unfriendly intrusions.

Today I flew

On the wings of a klutz

Across a small and crowded room.

The wonder of it all

Pure poetry in  motion.

Excellence...

purely. What a Klutz? This was so funny and well written I could almost see all your falls and bumps, and the bashing of your blinds. Well done Rosina xena465

Thank you, Rosina. A

Thank you, Rosina. A "Klutz" is a clubsy person in Yiddish, a language I knew growing up in New York with Jewish friends. An extraordinarily wonderful and expressve language and culture that I am afraid is dying out.... Longo
