OF HUMAN BONDAGE II

OF HUMAN BONDAGE II

There are no rewards for living
No medals for being alive.
Each day we do what we need to do
To survive.
In the scheme of things
Moments  of happiness  for some are few
But those are the times they must hold on to.
We are a flame burning high into Heaven’s sky
God’s gift to the universe.
His favorite Making
But the years take away what we were once yesterday
Pestilence, death and sin.
Demand   a toll from  our flesh and soul.
We end a fading  light
Clawing our way tthrough the dark
Of our approaching  mystery..
We long to understand
But it is not for us to know..
Dead silence of Infinity.
We curse Creation
But unwillikngly give in
To  gently and quietly  go the way
All those have gone
Before us.
That is how it is.
That is how it must be.
That is my hope and consolation.
Christ have mercy.

You move us, in your plight.

Not sure I didn't prefer the original where the immediacy of yourself was present rather than making it more general, however it is a poem with great simplicity of message that you handle with your usual dexterity and style. I love these bits:- "We are a flame burning high into Heaven’s sky" "We end a fading light" "Clawing our way through the dark Of our approaching mystery.." "Dead silence of Infinity." Powerful as always my Longobardolino my love as always Annuccia.
