ANGELI

Angelì [Italiain version on FORUM]

[Inspired by  tales told to me by my Calabrian grandmother]

Angelì, Angelì
Do you see me
Silently
Breaking through the morning mist.
Across fields kissed by Winter’s chill.
Now I stand under your window
Never far
Always near to you.
Angelì do you hear me whisper your name.
Do you hear me cry.
I don’t remember
When did I die.
Angelì
Do you see me still
In our son.
In his eyes.  In his smile.
In the gold of Nordic lands.
I wait for you my Angelì.
When your day comes
We will dance together
You and I
Across a diamond midnight sky.
I will show you the way
Angelì
To Heaven’s realm.
To Eternity.

·         Angelì – pronounced ON-GEL-LEE

·         Nota bene: Many  Southern Italian peasant women of the early 20th century were generally iin arranged and disillusioned marriages. No romantic novels to read for escape. Only tales of undying love. This “poem” is dedicated  in reality to my paternal grandmother’s sister, Angelina, who lost her husband  – and only true love—during the Great War. Married at 16 and left with 3 young children  in 1917 in the harsh mouintan regions of southern Calabria [La Sila]

Yet, I have known many

Yet, I have known many Hindus who are married by parental arrangements. Do you know that every one is in long-lasting respectful and loving marriages? Learning to love and respect are the goal of the marriage, rather than lust and desire, some physical attribute or mental idolatry. That is perhaps why more than half of the marriages fail in the U.S. Were that I listened to my mom, however; in the end it was my decision and I made my life what it is. In the end everything is what it is. Lovely lovely poem, Longo. You do your grandmother great honour. Blessings of Love & health to you. ~A There are no strangers in Paradise.

Molto sensibile faccia con amore (!)

I can see you sitting beside your grandmother listening  intently to her tales my Longobardolino... What a most beautiful idea, to speak his thoughts. And now you wish your mother to come and whisper to you, I'm sure she does! What a lovely spill of love, (spill= play in N.) spill of words from above, gossamer spun threads of letters floating on the waves of time to us Such a tale it warms us  in our winter nights sudden glimpses of delights now past yet not we have our lot then passing on sing other songs in hearts that understand and even take their hands(pens) and write a verse in honour of the memory of one who loved so constantly that constance flows( comes) to us and blesses us  and soothes us and gives us love from you. Annucia does too Longobardolinoo. Per favore, mi scusi- if the Italian is wrong!!!

Sono scene vive questi tempi

Sono scene vive questi tempi passati con i miei nonni. Mi accompagnano ogni giorno a misura che adesso anch'io "sto per finire." il longobardolino
