Reality of Fakery

Reality of Fakery

Boob job, nose bob
All to enhance the slob
Liposuction, skin reduction
Even collagen induction

Steroid use, body abuse
Now we need to reduce
Enter a trance, hair transplant
Get the latest pair of pants

Take a pill, time to kill
Beauty's skin deep if you will
Hair extension, Botox tension
Follow modern convention

Real or fake, what’s your take
Butt enhancement to celebrate
Are your ankles now called cankles
Doesn’t all this make you rankle?

A face lift, what a gift
Cure the wrinkles that have slipped
Do it again, where’s the end
When your belly buttons on your chin?

Do your legs look like kegs
What will happen if you renege
How did we come to be be
Without this new reality?

reality of fakery

...too funny, Rett! But it's also way to true! I thought you did a pretty good job keeping to the structure of the poem. However I kind of liked the ending the way you had it before the changes to the bottom. However, I like this ending tho too. I just sometimes like to be left to question these ideals for my self. Much respect, Corey

Dear Rett

As I get older my only vanity is a little makeup I am happy to let nature take its course and age with grace lifes painful enough without putting your body through more torture , ok I rambled LOL sorry Rett its 4am .. but this is the reality of todays society unfortunatley ... Love Jayne x x "We did not change as we grew older; we just became more clearly ourselves. Lynn Hall" ...

Corey, Jen and Jayne

Thanks so much. I added a verse I just couldn't resist and changed the last two lines back to the original as I think Corey had a good point. Yep, that is the reality today. I guess when I lose the rest of my hair I'll get a tattoo on top that says "This end up" just to make sure there are no mistakes. This is hilarious--

my favorite lines: Are your ankles now called cankles/Doesn’t all this make you rankle? We were just talking at work last week about people getting surgery on their toes to make them look more delicate. That was the first I heard about cankles. A lady came to the hospital the other day in a stretcher. I thought, "Why is that 40-ish woman so frail?" Turns out she was 70 but had a lot of work done. Yikes!

Thanks bunches Arrow

I heard the term cankles a few months ago and just shook my head. I actually started to put a bit in there about the surgery on the toes, but thought I might be getting too ridiculous, but I guess not. *L* Natural seems to be made of silicon, steroids, saline and plastic these days.*G* Respectfully, Rett: "Today, I feel like the south end of a north bound mule." I'll give that some thought and see how it works. I appreciate it. I think a lot of it is unnecessary torture. I can see times when it might be needed, but wow, they are going overboard these days. Respectfully, Rett: "Today, I feel like the south end of a north bound mule." Rett

You made me LAUGH OUT LOUD Rett,

You made me LAUGH OUT LOUD Rett, with this cry of what? Disgust, or surprise, its so unreal, I have stayed in my shape as I am and accepted it, but then I cannot complain it has been okay for me, I wasn't too fat ever, I wasn't 'given' a face with a squiffy nose, or a belly button that wished for a walk, so I can't talk!! So now I do not laugh. Ann of Norway P.S. It is worse for those who have terribly distorting accidents, that is so understandable.

Glad you got a giggle

And no, it can be a wonderful thing for those that truly need it. But if a woman or man is doing it to please someone else, then perhaps they should re-evaluate the person they are doing it for. Anyway, I had fun writing it and the reactions it has gotten. Thank you my friend. Respectfully, Rett: "Today, I feel like the south end of a north bound mule." Rett

reality of Fakery

Rett You made me laugh out loud I really needed this Thank you so much. As for me I am sure we all think about changing this and that. For me a few inches taller maybe but i am content with myself.Nip and tuck would be fine but how many times would this have to be done? I think people should be happy with them selves not what others think. Changes for me should only be if it is mediacal or life threatening etc. I think a lot of people give in to peer pressure no matter what age they are they should stand up and be themselves. This is what i do and if someone else does not like it it is there problem. As long as I am happy with me that is all that counts. No one is ever happy with themselves But Be true to yourself. Still smiling Blue

Too much truth

in what you have written here, Rett. For many maybe, but I prefer to proudly sport every grey hair, every wrinkle and every scar; each a badge of honor, each one a medal showing where I've been and perhaps more importantly, what I've been through. Life's souveniers... Thanks for the chuckle my friend! I miss you. Tom

Young Rett

I know it's gonna be hard fella for you to think that this may happen to you one day, but to write about it in such a good way is really going to release the pressure when this age thing comes to you, then you can reflect and maybe try some of these but I guess it is a way off yet LOL, Yours with great respect to my youngers, Ian.T PS:- Rett Respected poet with a true verse eye Exceptional man of high standing we cry Teacher of words that ring through time Together with us on this journey divine

This amazingly funny and contorted view of body artificiality, entices the reader to continue the stony and resounding road of the poem. In the end you question, ironically, the validity of it all, without self serving pride. Is it the way, really, in which people of the future could end up trashing their dignity? I guess very few will carry this fantastic prescription for altered self image to the very extreme. I hope so. Regards, Hugo.

Only the vainest of people are doing it these days, but the trend is getting stronger and stronger with teens getting boob jobs or nose bobs for their birthday. Weird man. Glad you enjoyed. truth in humour!

This was just a great read, great rhythm... a funny statement on the sad state of society. I'm dismayed at the lengths people will go to in order to appear "perfect" and young. Aging is a beautiful process, and I have no desire to look younger than I do (amazingly). I love the way you string your words together. I have to admit, though, in the 3rd verse, my mind said "intervention" where you have "convention." Which is odd, because by syllables, convention fits better than intervention, but when I read it out loud, I like the sound of intervention. Just some ramblings 8) This was a great read!
