Cannibals

CANNIBALS You never were kind to me
I never did know why
You broke precious dreams
With each lie
Many times I  turned away
Yet
I had so much to say.
Moments wasted
Lost forever
I counted the minutes
The hours quickly passing by
Little time I have
But you knew that.
You violated my gentility
Ravished a tender soul.
Poisoned it with hate
As my own love grew cold.
You fed on my innocence
Left me to die
So cunningly
I never knew.
But isn't that what all cannibals do?

Joe,

"Ravished a tender soul. Poisoned it with hate As my own love grew cold." I know this feeling, and you capture it well. I am left with the image of a giant vulture circling in, waiting for its prey to die. Yours, ~Nina
