A Question Of DIgnity

A QUESTION OF DIGNITY  I have my sad times and my bad timesNot the Rock of Gibraltar you think I amIt’s all a showLearned a lesson long agoPlay the happy foolPrimary ruleNever let them knowNever let them see Your pain and miseryFor when all is said and done When all else is goneIt’s a question of dignity

Hi Longo,

I am in two minds about the apparent message of this poem. Having been through a long depression recently, I have to say that sometimes I found it helpful to talk to friends about my problems, even if that meant being undignified. On the other hand I sometimes found myself baring my soul to people who had very little empathy and who looked at me as if they thought I was weird. But keeping all our troubles locked up inside is probably not good for us, even if it preserves an external dignity. I liked the clarity and simplicity of your writing. Best wishes, Robert.

A question of Dignity

J.B. Longo-Geremia Thank you, Robert. Yes, you a re right. I have been where you were several times-- one of the more "unpleasant" side effects of Parkinson's. You do need to bear your soul-- it is our way to help us thru the pain. This particular write was about a failed relationship. Dignity thru silence was my way to keep from "going under." Thank you, my friend, for your heart-felt and ntelligent comment. Joe
