President Rett's State of the Union Address

State of the Union Address

When the sun is cloaked in darkness
And shadows hide the moon.
When terror finds its freedom
And all the land cries doom.
Screaming out for vengeance
The criminals rise in mass
They're thirsting for a victim
On which to vent their wrath.

They rise like demons out of hell,
And across the land they stalk.
The innocent are in terror,
Upon the streets to walk.
The hatred rolls like waves
Upon a rocky shore,
Spreading across this land,
'Cause evil rides once more.

Let everyone who lives beware,
For death now stalks the land.
Children cry out for comfort,
But no one lends a hand.
Mothers turn their eyes away
From children they have borne.
While fathers are too busy,
Or just don't care no more.

The preachers cry with righteousness,
"Give us your last dime!
We'll see that your soul is saved,
Until next tithing time!
Your religion's not the same as mine,
So you are bound for hell.
Leave your church and come to mine.
Religion is for sale! "

Politicians are getting richer,
And causing us to bleed.
Saying they'll right all the wrongs
If we follow where they lead.
But their friends get overlooked
While taking all we've got.
They'll tax you till you reach death's door,
Then tax your funeral plot.

When the sun glows with brightness
And shadows flee the moon.
When people find their freedom
And rise above the gloom.
Screaming out for justice,
They'll overthrow in mass.
And all the fakes and criminals
Will reap their just repast.

I liked this one very much. too close to home though - sad a poem like this has to be written to "explain" a time like now, but you did it well. the ending should be posted on/in every media then maybe people would get the hint on what really needs to be done...well done!!!

Rett,

these words you wrote here are reflections of those utter in the begins of the American revolution, the words that Lenin cried and Hitler cried. these are words that have been heard in many country during the worst economic times. Is history repeating it self are we on the verge of revolt against a useless government, and religious leaders that do not help, then to tell you the truth I'm scared. I hope that it all gets turned around. I've been in countries that had revolution and it is not pretty. I sorry, I didn't mean to go on a rant. Eddie PS. Our government is useles and...well, I won't start something here. I don't want a revolution, I just want America's people to wake up and start voting on information and not what the news media tells us. Look up records. Not just presidents, but congress and senate also. Look at records and vote the ones out that are listening to lobbyists and not the American people. Anyway, Thanks a lot Eddie. Great poem

Too bad you had to write it. I don't want revolution either--but--enough will be enough some day. The media thinks they're movie stars. Who cares about facts as long as it's entertaining--right? Tomorrow's show will be nothing if not entertaining. Yours, Donna

How right you are deeliah

and the movie stars "think" they know what is best for the country. Facts are irrelevant, it is who they like or want that counts. Looking forward for Tomorrow night to see how blindly the public followed the media's campaign. Should be better than SNL. At least the first thing you would do wouldn't be to bomb Pakistan..... Didn't the American people hear Obama say that?! It sure got MY attention! Isn't that a bad thing, what with them actually having nukes and such? This is how their country works - everyone forms a line.... "Here's your portable launcher and Pakistani flag, next! Here's your portable launcher and Pakistani flag, next!" God help us.... Oh, but it gets better... both Jon and I, well under $250,000 annually, punched in our numbers into the tax thingy to see which President would give us the better break - neither of us qualified. Guess we should start having some children. Maybe I should grab a couple off the street and claim them. Can Jai be considered a dependent? So much for the working class tax cut - we're not gonna see any of it (if it comes to fruition) because we're not normal, in that we don't have liabilities!!! Hope the Obamanator friends are happy.... ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"When I was strong, strong in the sound thought I'd see when day was done. Your taxes will go up just as soon as the tax cut is allowed to expire, which it will soon. That will be an immediate raise in taxes and the rest will be coming soon. Not only do you not qualify under either plan, but with the CO emissions him and the Liberal congress wants to put into effect count on your electricity skyrocketing. You can claim me if you want for a small annual fee. *G* I totally understand where you are coming from as they tax my social security among other things. Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Julie, No problem

If I took offense at different views I would be a pretty poor person. I don't totally disagree with you on most of this although I have a few points I would do/think differently. Two points I do have a problem with though are as follows. (1) The energy problem. Biofuels are not the answer at this time. What we need right now is to drill and pump iur own oil. We have more oil in the USA than Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Iran and Iraq combined but because of special interest and environmental extremists we cannot drill and pump. The biggest lie is in Alaska where they scream it will hurt the enviroment there. Where the lie is is that theere is nothing there except a few traveling caribou herds and gopher mounds and not the scenic beauty they show you. Also the small footprint would be less in size than a postage stamp on a football field compared to the acreage talked about. Another huge field stretches from app. Colorado through North Dakota and up into Canada. After we tap those we need to start working on Nuclear, wind and solar energy for electricity and Hydrogen technology for autos. (2) The man made global warming fiasco. There may be a minimal man made impact especially in Areas like China and a few other countries but consider this. At any time on the earth there are 8 active volcanoes spewing pollution into the air. One of these alone puts out more pollution than every car ever made from the beginning to now, combined! Secondly, the warming/cooling trend goes in cycles as history tells us. There is evidence the Chinese once sailed within a few miles of the North pole in channels opened by, you guessed it, underwater volcanoes erupting as there is evidence of now. Another thing is the poor drowning Polar Bears who can swim 50 miles in open water. Six hundred years ago grapes could be grown in England, but it is too cold there now. Greenland wasn't named Greeland because it was encased in Ice. Pine trees give off NOX, Swamps, humans, animals, even dead ones give of CO2, Methane and other emissions. The inner and outer planets are warming up and unless we have a secret base there, I don't see how we caused it. Now, do I believe in global warming? Yes. Do I think it is directly attributable to man? No, not without proof from a reputable source not into the sale of Carbon Credits or affiliated with Enviro-extremists. Do I believe in controlling emissions? Yes, I do with common sense and not extreme to the point of destroying the economy. Do I think we should protect our forests and animals? Yes I do, but again with common sense and conservation and re-planting. I recycle everything I can. My grass clippings and leaves I mulch along with small limbs that fall. I recycle paper, plastic, glass, aluminium, iron and steel. Also batteries and tires when possible. I dispose of my oil in a recycle tank and my antifreeze is done the same way. I worked for 31.5 years in the chemical industry and I am very conscious of that stuff plus I can tell you one of the biggest farces that has been foisted on the public by the EPA clean air rules. Thank you for presenting your views. Always glad to see/hear from people with different outlooks. Who knows, they may be right and me wrong. *G* Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Hi Julie

It is enjoyable to discuss things with a knowledgeable person like you and although you and I my not agree on all thing I can see we agree on some. I guess you could say I am a conservative independent who votes my conscience. Sad to hear about the Orcas and the salmon. So many are lost to over harvesting and whale harvesting and it is sad. I used to be a liberal until Jimmy Carter came along. That cured me. I have had several good discussions on the oil matter. On my home page, page 2 of my poems you will find a poem named "Evil Big Oil" that might help you to see part of what I was getting at plus the discussions underneath that ended up continuing on my home page itself. *LOL* It is a bit better than having another huge discussion on it, even though you have a well thought out and firm belief which I happen to applaud. It gives me more respect for you. I also love your quote from Vernon Baker. It was lovely. If you ever have time read my short story "Miss Carrie" and you will see a little of why something like that quote is heart warming to me. We are learning more and more about nuclear energy each year. Most of the waste from the newer plants can now be recycled. Oh, sorry to jump subject here, but it reminded me of the recycling issue. We have a recycling center just a few miles from the house that does recycle the plastics and glass, paper and aluminium cans, plus a few miles from there a scrap iron company that recycles to the steel companies up north and overseas. I also saw the 60 minute deal and it was deplorable, but guess which is one of the countries that will NOT agree to the Kiota Accords under any conditions and would be exempt from them if we wrecked our economy joining? China! Julie, thank you so much for a delightful, compassionate and intelligently written discussion. It made my day! Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Great Poem

The 60's aren't dead after all!! This could have been penned in 1965 and would fit perfectly. Scary, huh! In 40 years, we haven't done shit! Well, here we go, trying again. I sincerly hope this time will be a little better. I would make a comment about the apathy of todays generation, but my son is just in college, and he has opened my eyes a bit. It seems there is a lot of concern and activity among todays youth. Let us hope they are more successful. Where was your name on the ballot? I missed it! There were crooks, thieves, swindlers, hippocrites, puppets,.....but no category for sincerity or honesty. Guess that's why you weren't listed. By the way, your construction was really great, first verse, development, reiteration from a different standpoint at the end. It really worked well. John

Thank you John

You got it my friend! My son-inlaw and my daughter and a lot of their younger friends think this election was a second John Kennedy. As for me, I'm not so sure as too much was covered up by the media. All I really know is that I am not satisfied with the way the Republicans have let thing go and I am not satisfied with the way everything tanked when the Democrats took control of the House and Senate in 2006. The whole dang government is in a mess and we need to look at everyone and vote out the one in the house and senate that aren't listening to the people whether they be Democrap, Repubican or Independs. Pardon my puns. Some of the young folks coming up are some really good kids and I hope with all my heart they pay more attention than we have for the last 16 years.BTW, I grew up in the 60's and 70's so of course it could have been written then. *LOL* Much obliged sir!
