Jumpin' Jehovah

The Jehovah’s came a calling

At my door the other day

They asked me if I ever

Took time out to pray

They wanted to know

If I believed in a God

I said that I didn’t

And thought they were odd

They tried to teach me

The word of the Lord

I started to yawn

I was getting quite bored

I explained my position

They were starting to peeve

I said that’s enough

And asked them to leave

There are good things, its true

We can learn from the Bible

But belief in a God

Just isn’t viable

I am not some Guru

Or Shaman or Mystic

No Gods for me

I’ll remain altruistic

Those people

they left on their own after they came to see me I never get board with their sort of theology I just talked about what floats my boat and tried to get at the root of what they might try to tote. So when they saw my knowledge of my God - that was my news, it was them worried about having to walk in my own shoes ::smiles:: What a pain those people are huh? Nice nice Shaz, Mark "I would rather die believing there is a God and discover there is not than die believing there is not and find out that there is" LOL A woman friend told me that one. Man thinks this.

*L8 Each to their own beliefs

I am a christian and have had arguments with them. Then I put up my American Flag and they only came once more. They told me they wouldn't be coming back and I said fine, suits me but why? They said we don't believe in that flag as it has done nothing for us. Only God can. I said, well, let me put it this way. Because of that flag you are able to walk the streets bothering people who doesn't want to be bothered. THAT is what it has done for you. They have not returned since. They went once to my friends house. He has a beard also. He told them I can't listen, I am Jewish. They left. Again they returned, he said, I can't, I am muslim. They left him alone. I have to say that as for me, I have to agree with Mark on the God thing, but I also respect your right to not believe and will not say anything bad about it. I enjoyed the poem and it was a very good read. It had a great rhythm to it and that is always good. Well done. Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Salty, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times, downright crabby" Rett: 2008

They’ve come to my home

They've come to my home several times. I've always had pleasant conversations with them. They've never been rude or argumentative. altruistic: all heart, benevolent, big*, big-hearted*, bleeding heart*, charitable, considerate, generous, good, good scout, human, humane, humanitarian, kind, magnanimous, openhanded, philanthropic, Robin Hood, self-sacrificing... ? Trying to understand how this word fits with this write, other than the rhyme. ~K~

well you guys, thanks very

well you guys, thanks very much for your approval. Personally I wont have any truck with these religeous sects. I have, in my time, read quite a bit about the major religions of the world, and it seems to me that they all have the same message, if everybody behaved in an upright, honest and charitable manner then the world will be a better place. Now I don't believe in God, but if I'm wrong, and in a way I hope that I am, then I will be judged on the way I've lived my life not whether I went to a Church or how many hail maries Ive said. Rett, I loved your one about Bi Polar that brought back some painful memories, my ex wife (30 years married) had it too and life was difficult, sadly she later developed paranoid schizophrenia and could, at times, be quite dangerous. If youre wondering, she divorced me for unreasonable behaviour, basically because I wouldnt let her drive the car because of the drugs she was taking, but thats another story or maybe a poem one day. Altruism, in my dictionary

Altruism, in my dictionary is defined as unselfish concern for the welfare of others, which is, I believe the basic tenet of the christian religion. Regards John

Shaz

Next time, if they come during the winter, as them to help you decorate the Christmas tree. They'll be out of there right quick! I agree wholeheartedly with Rett - though I have some deeper seated prejudices against them and Mormons. Your statement about being judged for how you lived instead of how many hail Marys you said - very very logical. If heaven is a place where I do indeed have to pay monetary admission to (tithing) and have to say 2,394,614 hail Marys before I die, before I can gain entry - well then I'd rather not go.... I hope that the Catholics are wrong. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"When there's no good answers, and no new questions. Great Poem

Nothing was forced and it had great rhythm; and gave me a chuckle. I usually let them walk all the way to my front door, then I politely tell them I'm not interested in what they have to say, and that they have 5 minutes before I let the dogs out. Thanks for sharing, Tom http://www.neopoet.com/node/12548

Yep

They come and they go John, I usually end up asking them why they let someone die for the sake of a little blood, but that is their belief and I honour that as they, as Rett says are free to be free. Did you know John & Rett, the ones that really give me some time, is the Mormons, after centuries of sending out missionaries to all corners of the earth, being whatever in the name of which ever King or Queen we had, they now send those missionaries to the UK, one good thing they taught me to make Pop Corn for my kids LOL. Bad thing I love the Pop corn that has a caramel finish but that was too much for them. You all Keep writing and Enjoy just being, The poem was a good read thanks. (Nearly forgot to say) Yours Ian.T

liked your poem... it is about me actually... I do try not to step on toes with my non-beliefs, but at times just that is offensive to some... oh well. enjoyed your poem Richard

Jess, I dislike all of the

Jess, I dislike all of the religious institutions but perhaps the Catholic Church most of all, was it not the catholic church who carried out the first tranlations of biblical texts from a dead language into a dying language, and then they omitted anything that they did not agree with. This "New Religion" was then used as a control mechanism by the dying Roman Empire and then, as it worked so well, was perpetuated by the regimes that took their place, ok rant over. Tom, you should try doing what my dad does, when they come knocking on his door he shouts "Bugger of you bastards, sling your bleedin' hook" at 87 he's got the right to say what he pleases dont you think.
