Hypocracy

is the very act
of asking God's blessing
and then pointing the finger at him
when something goes wrong.

It's telling our children to be polite
and courteous
and then yourself trampling over someone
for a prized toy
and present it to your child
on Christmas morning.

It's displaying a sticker for PETA*
on the back of your car
next to the Christian fish symbol
and then eating a veal dinner
or abusing your pet when it piddles on a rug.

It's going out and helping the world
even when it's not wanted
establishing the government we feel is right
and letting our own problems slide
with our own people

It's telling everyone how great you are
the best that's ever been
and then going home alone
crying yourself to sleep
because in reality, you're nothing.....

Hypocracy

Really good writing could use some tweaking for a smoother flow, but is a really good read. For example: or a talking baby that shits to give to said child on Christmas Day. kinda stumbles a little. All in the all your point got across very well, though it seems kinda of rushed, but good. Respectfully Yours, Barbara

Thanks, Barb

Yes, I agree. This needs major tweaking. I knew what I wanted to put, but I guess it didn't come out too well, huh? Let me think on this a little, and will revise it soon. Thanks for the input! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"So you stand on the corner in your new English clothes, and you look so polished from your hair down to your toes. Too right. 1880, 1994, 2005 - it doesn't matter the date... we've still not learned anything, and we'll keep repeating the same mistakes. I believe in the fact that animals are quite innocent - we make them out to be troublemakers. They were here first. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"So you stand on the corner in your new English clothes, and you look so polished from your hair down to your toes. Jess…. you nailed this

Jess.... you nailed this one! The perversity and dichotomy of humanity knows no bounds.... however, we are genetically inclined to be self-serving and make sure our genes survive at the expense of all others... Few live beyond these boundaries. And even fewer know what to do about it. ~A

absolutely

There are two forms of Jess K. - the regular one that is mostly peaceful, and the WTSHTF (when the s*** hits the fan) Jess K. However, even then would I probably put others over myself. Namely my family. If push came to shove, I would take a bullet if it meant Jon, or mother, or whoever was there at the time would live - and I'd shoot the s.o.b. that was trying to take them away in the interrum.... ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"So you stand on the corner in your new English clothes, and you look so polished from your hair down to your toes. Good one Jess

Loved the title, loved the message. It needs polishing, but all in all very good. And I promise I won't open my mouth about what I think of PETA on your poem. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just used them as an example - I don't necessarily subscribe to their school of thought, nor do they get my support. (I am, however, a member of the Defenders of Wildlife foundation) I agree about the polishing up - will give it some thought, and update it soon. I thought this was gonna spark a PETA debate. Jess, some good points but don't entirely agree. Do you really think this country is rotting from within, no jobs, no hope? A little over dramatic, but perhaps to emphasize a point?

Rett and Tom

Thanks gents. Tom, you make a good point. I guess I'm just cynical. I'll keep it in mind for the revision, ok? No PETA debates, please. I even thought "oh shit" when I posted this, because I was afraid something like that was going to happen. Maybe I should just scrap the whole poem before trouble starts. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"When there's no good answers, and no new questions. Jess... the day a person such as yourself decides to be stilled and not voice her poetry or thoughts at the behest and confluence of detractors... is the day America and the world are finished. imo. ~A

Dearest Anna, that is so kind of you. I am getting tired of ruffled feathers floating around, though... I think this will get its final edit, so as to become structurally sound, and then I'll return to things that don't piss people off.... LOL! Even though that was my original intent with this write - until I realized that some of the aforementioned things have the potential to spark off a powder keg. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"When there's no good answers, and no new questions. Well Jess

Each person has the right to do so and I haven't done it for awhile I am sorry that everything blew up like they did. Weirdelf sometimes makes good points, but can be so obnoxious about it. Anna was sweet and I enjoyed our exchange or belief on the other posting. I tried to get the debate with this over to another place. Dunno what happened in that deal. I guess I failed to head that off in time. I enjoy your writing and if anything I did offended you I wil do my best in the fture to make sure I ignore anything that starts or will fail to make any comment in rebuttal there. You are a good person and do not silence your voice. You are one of the few sane people I know. *G* Respectfully, Rett: "You want change? Let's elect a president and give him total power for a year. A very provocative poem

Jess and yes many people like to make you think they care about issues but then dont do anything active about them or even mindlessly contradict them. Speaking from some eye opening personal experiences of a large number of US citizen friends on very low incomes i have to admit i am constantly shocked by the lack of support given to them by the richest country in the world. One day perhaps a Presidential ticket might be won on the strength of diverting money from so called defence of the country into a much needed National Health Service and improved housing support etc but i cant see your system letting such an enlightened strategy ever happen....far too many vested interests for real social reform i fear. Strangely enough there was considerable resistance to the creation of our own National Health Service after the war, but an enlightened government then had the vision to make it happen and now no one would ever want it taken away again. Enjoyed the poem. Keith

I'm honored that you graced my page. I wasn't trying to spotlight the government in this poem, it was more about the individuals that we come across on an almost daily basis. It is interesting to see other countries react to our state of affairs, though, and everyone's jaw is on the floor. Unfortunately, I have to agree with you somewhat in that the general populace is not the government's greatest concern. "We the people" doesn't mean jack squat anymore. I don't think I can ever recall an election where I had such strong emotions. Yes, I didn't want to see Bush Sr. win, Yes, I was happy Clinton won, and yes, I was merely disgruntled when Bush Jr. got in. I am downright SCARED at our prospects this term. If Obama gets in, we're doomed. Thank you for your thoughts! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"When there's no good answers, and no new questions. Jess,

I'm afraid you're right. If Obamassiah gets in, it's Jimmy Carter all over again. It's remarkable really, how someone with NO experience but speaks well could win the most powerful position in the world. Tom

Blow me away Jess

I for one am a hypocrit to a degree but I try. I think this hits home with most. I would find it hard to believe most do not harbor an amount of it. To be aware to try and make amends. To think at least from time to time - oops it's not your fault Jesus Christ and to not abuse your childern and pets when you know a parent is about love, caring, teaching etc. To try and unhurt the hurt. I suppose these are some of the things that help keep us civilized and more good. Nice, very nice, Jess. Mark Man thinks this.

just kidding Jess... enjoyed your write and the comments to it... I believe we are all hypocrites at different times in our lives... it is part of our nature.. to say one thing and do another at times.... take care Richard

Beautiful Richard! Strange

Beautiful Richard! Strange paradox though.. when we don't know we are hypocrites we are the worst offenders... and should be forgiven for not knowing any better.... but that's not how it works, does it? I've loved your honesty since day one. ~A

HI

VERY NIE WORK. I LOVE IT, especially the subject hypocrisy. and can you elaborate on 'grasshopper approach' cuz t is the first time i heard of it. it is very deep and very true. i just love how you ends the poem, it makes the humbug truly wakes up and stop toying others and themselves. actually, i wrote several times under the themes of hypocrite, MARVELLOUS ZARUL

Oh I'm sorry...

Grasshopper (Rich) is a member of Neopoet. He has a couple of poems where the title is the first word of the poem. I just thought it was a neat way to write, so I "borrowed" it. Give him a look up, he's written some amazing stuff! Speaking of - anyone know what became of him? I've not seen him lately. Hope this helps. Jess,

I didn't know you felt that way, I am so impress. you are right, they were here first. they are here to help and give us comfort. people can't even respect each other, and these people are the real animal, because there scared to confront other human so they take it out on innocent animals. I sometimes think that I am a little to extreme because I won't keep an animal in the house because I belief that they were born to be free. Just as we believe that we were born to be free. Let me stop, before I get real angry. great work Jess bring this important issue to the light, and your view's which I am proud to have read. Thanks Eddie

My view of animals is strange. Yes, they're innocent, and yes I have an emotional attachment to most of them. I won't shoot a groundhog just because he leaves a hole in my yard. I don't hunt. I don't take pot shots at the squirrels with a .22 for entertainment. And I didn't buy my cat from a pet store - she was adopted from the shelter. She's probably the most pampered and spoiled cat ever, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I tell her I love her, and even though she doesn't understand 'human' she understands the meaning. And the only reason why I eat meat is because it's a medical necessity - though there are a number of animals/birds that I refuse to eat, and if you tell me that one of them is on my plate, it will not get eaten. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"When I was strong, strong in the sound thought I'd see when day was done. Now me, I am an omnivore

There are certain meats I won't eat even being from the south. *LOL* But there are some plants I won't eat either. I believe they have the same right to life as animals. Especially Broccoli. and I did not see Hypocrisy anywhere hmmm Are you sure about Hyprocracy? I cannot find it in my resources, Jess. OR are you talking like a form of government? A Hypocracy lol making all under the flag hypocrit (to a degree) That would be a bit of philology, if so :) Mark Man thinks this.

Hyprocrisy

Enjoyed this write! Barack Obama, when asked recently whether he ever resented the limelight for making it so hard to enjoy any privacy, thoughtfully observed that it would be hypocritical for him to complain, since he after all--like nearly all celebrities--had sought to become famous. I found that a refreshing LACK of hypocrisy! (Can't wait 2 vote 4 him 2morrow! :-,?) PS: Note that correct is "hypocrisy."
