Need?

Once I heard of a love
Untold as the poets say
Unsung as the psalmers sing
Love that existed not in logic
Love that couldn’t be traced
And had no need

Once I heard a story
Written backwards for forward’s sake
Read forwards and misunderstood
A story that surpassed its self
A story that had no author to be named
And had no need

Once I saw a light
Gleaming from your eyes
Dimming not and using no disguise
A light that touched my heart
A light that started a spark
And had a need

Once I saw that need
A doubt followed
A sorrow swallowed me whole
But then I saw a new light
Sparking from my eye
And need was met

I love this, Lady

This is incredible as is, but I hit few "rhythm bumps" while reading. Oftentimes, the author has a cadence in their head (I always do) and I will continue to read this one over and over until I think I have the right tempo. I love the line "Written backwards for forward’s sake" but I love it all. Looking forward to reading more of your work. Tom

First let me say thank you! I am typically not much with true rhyme and meter. I suppose it is because I have my own tempo and way of speaking. All of my poetry is written what I can only describe as 'my voice'. I suppose if I had the voice for it I should record a lot of my work so that it would make sense for my readers lol and as for 'writing backwards for forward's sake'...that is something I actually do lol I start with only my ending and find my beginning in it's wake. Sounds strange I know but as a horse of different color I must concede that I yam wot I yam and quite simply nothing more lol many thanks again! <3 Emarie @~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@ "For every shadow, no matter it's depth, is threatened by the morning's light..."

when ever I read your poems Emily Dickinson pops into my head. your poems are those of dark that bring the light, so beautiful and well executed. for me this rates a "5" thanks, Eddie "do like the once barren tree: flourish and like the planted seed: rise" Jose de Deigo

Oh My...

I'm not sure that I am deserving of such a compliment but let me say that you are not the first to say so...a friend say something similar about my poem 'My Heart, Kind Sir'...I can not tell you what a much needed smile your comment has brought to my face! Thank you for your kindness Eddie! <3 Emarie @~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@ "For every shadow, no matter it's depth, is threatened by the morning's light..."

I agree with Tom and Patty - the second stanza really takes the prize with this poem! Well done! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"So you stand on the corner in your new English clothes, and you look so polished from your hair down to your toes. when need drifted away on a bright and lovely summer's day i went looking for myself in dreams long ago suspended i asked sorrow to let me go i asked the night not to pass judgment to look away i could not stay this close and be so far...so very far when need drifted away and begged me stay. I just might have to start voting...Emarie ;-) ~A
