Shattered Crystal 2

Shattered Crystal 2
The Would-be Mage

It shimmers like dancing flame
A cascade of prismatic color
Kaleidoscope of patterns
Ever changing, never the same

In the full bright of day
It has no color or pattern
Just plain milky white quartz
Nothing special, no lights at play

Only happenstance of sight
Spied the slightest glimmer
As a cloud passing overhead
Revealed the pulsating light

At the crossroads he stands
Can he use the crystal?
Will  the power rage
Out of control in his hands?

Gently he cradles the stone,
Looks deep into the depths,
Becoming one with the power
Soaring to heights unknown.

Brighter and brighter it glows
Reaching, licking, burning
He screams in anguish
Too late, he finally knows

The crystals aren't for our kind
Long ago people were wise
They made a mistake and paid
Now only the crystals remain

Where he once stood, ashes blow in the wind...

Another Great One Rett

Read it twice because I couldn't believe how mystical this was. The mystery is the beauty of this write. Respectfully Yours, Barbara

Thank you Barbara

I have been developing this one for a while now. I posted part one a bit back and now part two. The theme I plan on keeping fairly consistent, but will vary the style a bit. I want to try to make each one kind of a complete poem into itself. Somehow I have become kind of caught up in it. I have no idea when or even if I will post another one for sure though. *shrug* I am a bit weird at times. *LOL* I am glad you liked the mystery involved in it. LOVED IT!!! i am such a dork i know and you dont have to say it but this soooo reminds me of snipit from the lore of World of Warcraft...anyway it is brilliantly titled and may i just chuckle at 'The Would-Be Mage' lol anyway this may all sound like a bunch of nonsense to you but i really really did enjoy it! I really do love your work! "For every shadow, no matter it's depth, is threatened by the morning's light..." <3 Emarie

Thank you Emarie

I have been a fan of Andre Norton for a long time. I love her Witch World series and this probably has some roots in it. She died a couple of years ago and I miss her writing. It doesn't sound like nonsense to me my friend. A little magic and mystery in a persons life is always nice. I am so glad you liked this. I appreciate it. Beware of pretty rocks Richard

You never know if it might be one of the old ones crystals. *G* Glad it was enjoyable my friend and I myself loved the ending. Kind of a moral to it. Be careful of trying to use something you know nothing about. For some reason I think this one may have stories to it that even I don't know yet. Still reminds me of a sci-fi movie. That is one mean rock, man! What caused so much anger and retribution, I wonder? Too much of being skipped across a lake? I think the Shattered Crystal theme begs to be turned into a short story. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"When there's no good answers, and no new questions. Thanks Jess

I have been considering it, but am not sure I can do it the way I want. I can write in narrative form fairly well, but have a lot of trouble with dialogue. It always comes out sounding trite and contrived. *sigh* I regret my lack of education every time I turn around. btw, I will be posting a Shattered Crystal part 3 later tonight that explains a lot of things. You know how this one goes for me. Brilliantly written, but you know I'm not a fan of this sci-fi, mystical, wizardry, whatever. But, I am a HUGE fan of yours and of your writing. It's like a delicious dish that I wouldn't order from the menu of the fanciest restaurant. You know what I mean, my friend. It's my shortcomings, I'm pretty set in my ways. Tom

Thanks my friend

I completely understand. There are things in writing that I am not a fan of myself and that is to be expected. If we all liked the same things life would be very boring. As you know I do like this kind of thing to an extent, but a lot of other things interest me as well. I am as likely to write about a lightbulb burning out as I am about a romantic trist. *LOL* I appreciate you even taking the time to comment on this knowing your preferences. I am a study in contrasts. I am a dreamer with my feet firmly planted in reality which in and of itself is a contrast. Thanks a lot Tom. There will be more pieces written along the lines of what you enjoy. Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Salty, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times, downright crabby" Rett: 2008
