Lost No More

LOST NO MORE.

I am lost without you
but in my loneliness
I am not afraid
to be alone.
That I feel so safe
is due to your
calm labour of
affection
that you offer freely
to my person.
I have not measured
how much love
my heart can hold,
indeed, it scares me
the abyss
into which
it will tumble.
I keep wondering
whether I deserve you
Darling Man-
And then I hold
the mirror to our
reflection-
'Tis you!
'Tis me!
'We' are lost no more.

I do like your work

but this is not one of my favorite pieces. For me, there are too many tired phrases (unfathomable depths, calm harbours, lost without you, etc.). You can be so much more lyrical and descriptive. That said, I think this is a great theme - how love is both disorienting and orienting, secure and frightening. And I do think the final image of love and self reflected in a mirror is wonderful. I hope you'll consider revision. I'd love to re-read if you make some changes.

just for you!

Hey, Just for you...I appreciate your critiques...I'm not changing 'lost without you'...but have edited some of the 'tired' phrases! What's it like now? Ells x

Calm labour--

I like that a lot better. It also seems truer (more true?), in that emotional security is something built. I didn't read these lines carefully the first time: I have not measured how much love my heart can hold, indeed, it scares me the abyss into which it will tumble. Now that I have, I must say how much I like them. Recognizing one's need does take an act of courage. Psychologically astute, nicely written. Thanks.

I love the end of this poem, the valitation of love, that goes beyond the feeling of being lost. thanks, Eddie "if a man does not know love, he does not know God"

Thank you...

Hi JC, I get overwhelmed by the amount of excellent poetry on this site...I spend ages going through writers back catalogues...I'm getting a selection of what I consider my finest work together in a sort of anthology for a performance poetry 'slam-dunk' locally....open-mic sessions...gets very competitive but it sure gets the juices flowing!
