The Desolate Heart
Bitten by cold and stung by frightA life beleaguered by the darkness of despairThe afflicted night awaits sunlightOf hope, warmth, love and care The wet eyes await the horizon’s windowTo open for the majestic appearance of sunBrightening lives with its transcendent glowAnd flogging the darkness to make it run A frostbitten tree with its outstretched armsStripped of its leaves, tormented and downRobbed of its beauty, devoid of its charmsPrays for succour from sources unknown The afflicted heart still beats in the chestWith unabated passion for love and caressIn mounting anguish and growing unrestThe undaunted spirit can’t settle for less The desire, the hope, the expectations, the dreamTo see the glowing face of light and love againA mirage they appear, an illusion they seemTell the heart to contain the emotions insane One who has parted, one who has goneIn the whirlwind of time will never returnBe your heart desolate, miserable, forlornAnd your life slowly like a candle burn
