Step into My Parlor (said the spider to the fly)

Step into My Parlor (said the spider to the fly)

There are those who will tear down
Everything that’s great
They complain about the world
And the food upon their plate

They would not be happy
If they could not complain
So they voice all their misery
Make others groan with pain

Anything that may be great
They want to make it bad
Find everything that’s wrong with it
because it makes them glad

If they  get a million bucks
They say it should be two
Complain about too many laws
And gripe about too few

They complain about no job
And refuse to take what’s offered
Content to ask for our support
And empty all our coffers

They’ll denigrate your country
They’ll step upon your pride
Because if you don’t think like them
It eats them up inside

They scream about their freedom
And it’s their right to talk
But if you disagree with them
Freedom takes a walk

They want us to change the world
Make it a nicer place
Call it a social paradise
to give it a better face

Step into my parlor
Said the spider to the fly
And I’ll teach you of freedom
Just before you die

There are some here who will dispute this view as is their right. Each of us is entitled to our own view. At least the ones who think the USA and certain other countries are wrong are speaking out. This is more than the vast majority of us..

ugh spiders..

I hate spiders, but loved this poem... especially "They scream about their freedom And it’s their right to talk But if you disagree with them Freedom takes a walk" - so very true. Good job, Rett. ~Jess K. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Everyone needs to believe in something. Texas and the Alamo

New Yorker died alongside the other people defending their position many years ago Freedom said many Freedom years later said Mr Lincoln Freedom said Martin Luther King on the steps of the Mall and the great reflecting pool I enjoy my freedom we have Canadian men and women who assisted years ago in foreign battles that we may have choice from dictatorship and New York provides us today with Neopoet where like the Alamo years ago it too suffered a Massive attacke less then eight years and counting and Canadians too died that day war saddens me That many must give their lives to keep a balance in check that one or more cannot run away and threaten the peacefully wished lives of a democrasy like we have in Northern America but we are on defense and for good reason and not since the cold war or world war two when B-24 bombers were ferried from this very airport in my city I appreciate your poem very much It is empassioned and written with a dogged determination that serves as the core of your country and flag And I like spiders too A very good poem sir !

Thank you sir. War is a sickening thing. Unfortunately growing up on the streets I learned you can't say I'm sorry or try to make amends to someone that is bent on conquest or retaliation. You can't appease them because it just makes them bolder and all it takes to make a war is one asshole that doesn't give a damn and you either fight or get your ass kicked. I appreciate the comments and your views. Rett: They say that money talks. Sadly, my wallet has laryngitis!

outstanding point, Gene.

"try to make amends to someone that is bent on conquest or retaliation" - especially the ones we face now. It's not just one person, or even one nation. It's a radical populace that encompasses multiple nations. Not to mention, they have no fear of death, in fact they welcome it. How the fuck are you supposed to beat that?! Steven - Outstanding points, mate... you have my utmost respect. ~Jess K. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Everyone needs to believe in something. The only way you can fight it is through trying to ferret them out, through greater security at the border and getting people to understand that you can't just turn your back on them. If you do you will get killed. They don't care about innocent men, women or children. They care for just one thing. Bending you to their ideology or you dying. It is that simple. Right or wrong,

I would gladly stand next to you, your words here, my countrymen and my God, whether you believe or not, you are welcome to stand, with a common goal of security and prosperiety for all men, with compassion, and if needed a swift and Just hand. 'cause in the land of freedom.. critics, tyrants and foes, will indeed fall., and though we may not always get it right, we do try...and if I can not pick Lady Liberty up, then with her I'll gladly die. USA,USA,USA,USA, oops got carried away...(and to those who hate patriotism, imagine five birds in a row, and I salute you, as the middle one stands up.) Kinda angered at the anti-american sentiment abound, in her own borders. This country was founded on the beliefs of a God the same God that embraces your own right to include or refuse, but you pick and choose only what you like. Those who preach of love, tolerance, and freedom of faith, you are those who wish to deprive me?! of those things, for which you exercise in defiance of my beliefs and you justify them, it is you who take from men and infect democracy! Sorry Rett, kinda went off here, I owe you a page of mine, for some future debate... sometimes shit just boils over and my american colors run, run down my eyes as cross enemy lines, and defend my wonderful country and men, may God be with us. -DarkinAZ-

5 *'s just on this here comment alone!!

"and to those who hate patriotism, imagine five birds in a row, and I salute you, as the middle one stands up" - It isn't the tallest finger for nothin'!! I fail to see why so many people, as you said, in our own borders continually put down our country on a near regular basis. Sure, I bitch about our government, and my general displeasure on how some things are handled; we're not perfect after all, but you know what? Gimme a gun (oh wait, I have one) and I'll defend her too. If I wasn't DQ'd from the military, I would probably still be there today had I been able to go in. It's one thing for foreigners to bash our country, or people who aren't native to bash it, but when you have someone born and raised pulling that crap, it's just sick. You don't like it? GTFO. Mark, you've made some awesome points, and I hope you decide to write about them. ~Jess K. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Everyone needs to believe in something. Thank you for getting it and understanding Mark as well. We have the right to disagree, but for goodness' sake understand that we aren't perfect. We have our flaws, but we TRY! I think I explained a bit better in the poem and in my answer to Mark. The people over the centuries WON us that freedom to disagree, to believe in God, Alla, Jehovah, Yaweh or whatever or the right not to. Those things are what freedom means! Again thank you and Mark! Hooray for the Red White and Blue. Thank you sir!. There are too few of us who speak out. We have some things wrong that need fixing, but on the whole, if we are so bad why does everyone want to come here? I don't have the education that says I should believe that we are the scum of the earth. I am not a college graduate so I don't know that we should be ashamed of what we have. I wasn't educated enough to know that if we only say we're sorry or that we should cowtow to every little despot in the world and that will make it alright. I grew up on the streets where I got my education in reality and saw what happens if you try to appease someone who wants to kick your ass. Rett: They say that money talks. Hi Rett

Hey Congrats on the election, probably not the right spot to put this in, but oh well, I liked your poem. Both of my twin brothers had to fight in the war (drafted or enlisted) does it matter. My brother loves, 1 God, 2, His family 3, His country 4. Little Lee (if you don't know who that is never mind). Back to your poem, I liked the theme, I like the way you rhyme I like your work This is not your first time around the turnip patch is it? take care, Patty

Thank you

Thank you Patty on all counts. As far as the turnip patch goes, I have been writing a long time. A little over 3 years ago I got so fed up with editors who would take a glance at my poetry and turn it down because. 1. it rhymed 2. it wasn't anti American 3. it wasn't anti religious 4. it wasn't blatantly sexual 5. it didn't fit their criteria or subject which goes back to 1, 2, 3 and 4. It wasn't until I came here and found some acceptance for my antiquated style of writing that I started feeling like I could write again. Rett: They say that money talks.
