the final concert of a deaf man
you associate me with hyacinths;
i show up to your house with them.
purple, your favorite,
color of the royals—something only you could deserve.
when i twist the thin metal door frame,
the handle sliding over its grooves
with the sound of cracking bones—
then, it is too loud, much too loud as I
process the bullet in my chest,
the bloom of blood,
a striking realization—
oh, lord. it burns.
it burns, it burns, it burns.
how could you do this to me?

but like sugar in my wounds—i suppose
in time, i’ll turn this sticky mess into
a kaleidoscope of sweet bruises.
my life, grief, as it softens—hold it all for me—
the memories you make us erase. and
as you watch, gun still in hand
as my body disintegrates,
water stops forcing cohesion
atomically & anatomically
we are oceans of love, atlantic and pacific,
and you’re scared of water.
i guess i wasn’t the right flower for you—
not purple enough or maybe hyacinth is not your type—
the fountain of youth does not move.
