March Cries
The robins are calling for breakfast
and its not yet five am
pale blue on high as I wait that fiery eyeball
to rise above the brow on the summit
and present the ending of March
Misty gray mist settling just in front of me
feathering low, swaying side to side
hiding something maybe….no
just silhouettes of the trees standing naked in the yard
Now I see the robin calling to an earthworm
peeping out his door, to come upon the stage
push… pull push… pull inch by inch
gathering himself upon the stage

Perched on a limb, mother cocks her head to one side
straight line stare, lifts her wings, glides from the balcony
two quick hops, a nod left, a nod right
she then plucks the worm from the stage
Cherie chirps from the little ones in the nest
applaud her performance at this, the closing of March
and that fiery eyeball rising from sleep
stares down upon an empty stage
