Son of Bullfrog
Every summer,
Mr. Bullfrog greeted the children
from beyond the pitch pines.
GULP. GULP.
Night after night,
his song drifted through the open windows,
becoming part of the house as surely as bedtime.
He never knew
he was teaching children
what home sounded like.
GULP. GULP.
Summer after summer,
faithful as dusk.
Then one year he fell silent.
Read the rest of the poem Show less
The children had long since grown,
and it seemed I was the only one who noticed.
No more
GULP. GULP.
At first I missed him.
Then, as people do,
I forgot.
Until one warm evening
another voice
rose from the little woods.
GULP. GULP. GULP.
Perhaps a son
Perhaps simply another bullfrog.
It didn't matter.
The forest remembered.
And someone, long ago,
had taught him the song.

"in total agreement with the A.I. The "they" are rather ambiguous and need some kind of classification. I see where this was going, only you just didn't have enough momentum. Welcome to Neo. ~ Geezer." -
