Drive Before You Drink...

With stereos rocking, blasting
they chased each other's lights.
Singing Clapton and Stevie Ray,
they roared on through the night.

Whining, bended notes,
stuck in your ears and brain,
hopped up by sweet guitars,
they drove, playing in the rain.

The black and rusty, little racecar,
flew by them all alone.
A cowboy couple waving, smiling,
she took pictures with her phone.

The Dawn of a New Era

Hummingbirds harmonise with the rain
Toucans toast to the sweet refrain
Butterflies caress a young fawn's ear
The dawn of a new era is finally here

Through forest ferns, a stream is found
Where nature's treasures splash around
Cascading falls, splendid in sight
Watch over the landscape in delight

A gentle trickle from afar
A modest reminder of who we are
Sets us on a journey; ignites belief
Promises old wounds will find relief

Time to give up?

I've never been a high achiever,
A drinker of champagne.
I was the disappointing daughter,
Always with far too much to say.

I never strived for a better a life,
To compete with me, was never known.
No goals or sunny dreams,
It was always safer here at home.

I don't want to do one better,
Going places, always on the phone.
I'm not your all out go getter,
I just want to be here on my own.

The Woman on the Windowsill

Sat on the sill was a beautiful thing,
Shadowed and whistling the tune of a grief,
Greater than other than her will e'er sing;
Out of the feelings it told of was chief,
Restless regret, and the pain it did bring.

Listening, I stood by, gathering thought;
Lovely, serene and remorseful it seemed.
O! And such joy would it have to me brought—
Knowing exactly why fate had then deemed
That thence, a voice lost in song would be wrought.

A Sonnet for Emma

She was always a strict woman but kind
Respectful and helpful in many ways
Her faith has been exact and well-defined
Old fashioned but still flexible these days

She is the matriarch of my family
Raising each and every one of us right
Instructing us to behave tactfully
And then to say our prayers every night

Now at ninety-six her voice is gentle
As the fog of dementia clouds her mind
But the lucid states are instrumental
Showing us a strength that never resigned

Quiet of an early morning

Before the onset of morning rush hour
while the beasts of burden
and engineers of civilization still slumber
in their respective man/woman caves
analogous to a hushed puppy,
whose faux pas
(four paws) involuntarily twitch
dreaming of jump/kick starting
another round of catch
with their master
or gamely frolicking
with no bone to pick
atavistically running
against the wind with the pack.

Man In The Mirror

A face appears at the break of day
in silver glass and shades of gray-
a stranger shaped a bit like me,
with eyes that ask who I might be.

He tilts his head when I tilt mine,
a perfect echo kept in line,
yet something in his steady gaze
feels older than a waking haze.

Is he the me I hope to show
or one I've hidden from long ago?
A dreamer, a fighter, a quiet soul-
The one who's trying to just stay whole.

A blissful stream

Look !
It’s a new day,
and happiness is spilling across the world
like sunlight breaking through a stubborn night.
No point digging through the ruins of yesterday,
no point letting old ghosts
rent space in your chest.

But there you are, sitting still,
curled into the echo of what once was,
as if the past deserves
that much power over your present breath.

You're the Occasion

Yeah…
come here, baby.

The room doesn’t glow—it leans toward your grace,
as if the walls themselves remember your light.
My heartbeat shifts, trying to draw near your space,
’cause God shaped you slow… carved your spirit just right.

Only you—
yeah, you’re the occasion, girl.
Only you—
my night’s soft celebration.
Only you—
my morning’s lift in a rising swirl.
I’m grateful you stayed—my quiet foundation.
