A Date With Wine

Dating is not a game
To be played like a toy
It’s not a cat and mouse chase
Among men and women

Dating is not a wine treasury
To quench thirsty desires
It’s not a lust filled vessel
To be tasted like aged old wine

Dating is not to be taken casually
For sports and entertainment
It’s not a stage for performers
Pursuing fame

Dating is a vineyard
Before nuptials
Beholding the wine not its redness
Discerning maturity

The dark Creature (Re-post edit)

I was born of Darkness
my only purpose is
to bring the dark into your life

Evil has rained upon me
day and night
every malignant thought
that comes to me
is to bring the end
to your pathetic world

Speedily I went
leaving devastation in my wake
wave after wave of cruelty
I slammed upon your shores
where you thought
it was safe
eroding all the barriers
which you have put in place

A Candle in the Night

Just as it's lazy demeanor does imply
the trees seem to have been coerced,
by a breeze so nonchalant-like
that it really seems rehearsed.

Yet, in the end it's justified
as the landscape clearly shows,
the leaves have all but vanished
for Winters' breath so fiercly blows!

But, just as every fallen leaf
becomes a resident on the ground,
we all would adapt to the situation
so, food and shelter must be found;

CONFLUENCE

CONFLUENCE

So we’re told, by those who hold
The view, that earthly strings
Will overpower the pull of love
On all celestial things-
But, by some paradox, around the equinox,
No power in the stars
Could prevent the confluence
Of Mercury, Uranus and Mars.

For Mercury, of fire born-
Quicksilver, much maligned-
Uranus, so distant,
Was the last to be aligned-
Now, in Mars, this triad of stars
Has found its human face:
The pull of love, that once seemed faint,
Has drawn them to this place…

DREADING SUMMER

Just memory now, the cold March wind
which made the bare trees sway and bend
tossing sedge fields into waving seas
causing early mornings' puddle freeze.

For now April has half worn out
and spring is blossoming about.
The days of dawning frosts are done
replaced by dewy sequins in the sun.

We'll greet the warm days while they last
for the southern heat approaches fast.
Ere long we'll mourn the cold that's lost
and yearn for return of autumn's frost.

eucalyptus viminalis

I reached up, and ever up,

my palm skimming grey, morning green,

and a wraith of sandstorm-brown.

I climbed and saddled myself astride

the notch of two dividing, naked limbs,

my sap to the tree’s sap, my limbs locked around you,

my lips to your smooth, cool bark;

the scent, the sense of your leaves,

the bitterness of girls’ hair in the rain,

the taste of it on my tongue.

I knew how there was no right mind in love,

only being grafted against my will to the eucalyptus,

Slow Fade

Wistfully I watch her
sitting in bed
staring at nothing.

As I enter she seems surprised
Inquiring “Oh Lori your're here. Is school over already?”
Squelching down the urge to tell her
“ Mom, I’m grown.”
I smile, laugh and say
“It is Saturday.”

Her eyes bright, as she declares
“See I know who you are...
...your Dad thinks I’m delusional.”

Quickly I lean in
hugging her small frame
hiding tears
balanced on my eyelashes.

Nature’s Might

Mother earth teach me your ways,
Away
We go to meet your children,
Earthen
My mind and make me become one with you,
Too,
Many things to learn, but I wish to know,
Show
Me the world beneath my feet,
Greet
Me with your arms of light,
Smite
Those who come to abolish your knights,
Might!
