Heart That Never Surrenders

In the basement
Of a broken heart
There is a strand
Of hope the
Naked eye can’t see

It turns lights on
So, darkness never
Finds it’s throne

The sun of a soul
blinks its eyes,
rather play dead
Then see a heart
Shed even one tear

When it feels safe
It awakens sending
the broken one
on its way back
To its throne

Even though this is
Not it’s first battle
It knows a sadness
That makes breathing
Into a soldier that
Has no gun in war

I Lost the Instructions

‘Where how I lost them isn’t important’
I told my psychiatrist seeking endorsement.
‘The why is what matters!’ I cried with exhaustion, acutely annoyed by his practice of caution.
‘I tossed them aside as I couldn’t adhere to these mind control tactics that prey on my fear!’
Finally he spoke, slowly, to hide his alarm, ‘it’s important at this stage you try to stay calm’..
He scrawled on a notepad and teared off the sheet as I sat there in stiffness with heart-racing beat.

War Within Myself

Deep within our mind and soul
Our failures so often take its toll

The battles we face we can’t ignore
The war within us continues to roar

Our deepest faults are always there
That hurt our loved ones who care

The inner war is always here
A fight we too often fear

Peace is what we really crave
A chance to prove we are brave

Each day we renew our resolve
A chance to enable us to evolve

The difference between war and peace
Is the resolve we have our sins to cease

Just a Day at the Beach...

Just a day at the beach,
he wrote home to his girl...
"We'll roll up in floating barges
give the locals such a thrill."

He's deaf, he hears not a sound
but the sun is shining bright,
the sky is blue, the sea, it sparkles,
yet, something isn't right.

There's no sounds around him,
but plops and sprays of salty foam.
He jumps into the bloody water,
a steel pot upon his dome.

To Those Who Walked, Peace Versus War

I hope you have a quiet day,
a kissing breeze,
sweet hours at ease
planting flowers, if you please,
and nothing there to rip it all away.
I hope you have that day.

I pray you have a gentle night,
under stars so deep
they soothe and keep
your soft breath flowing as you sleep
beneath the crescent moon and her earthlight.
I pray you have that night.

After drenching biblical rainfall...

verdant green acres covered the planet of the apes
like a petticoat junction
donning barrel of skinny dipping monkeys.

Once drought stricken vast landscape
far as the eye could see
suddenly flush with promise
of budding new shoots
and ladders for vine companions
harkened prelapsarian Edenic prominence,
when mother nature resplendent
videre licet morning glory of primeval Earth
pregnant with multitudinous color pallette
regaled bipedal forerunners

Losing America

Kindness packed her bags;
Couldn’t bear the hate
In our broken hearts.

How can we be kings and queens
When we've settled as pawns?
Did I offend, or was it pride
That led us astray?

What is evil whispering tonight?
“I’ve wounded love; slowly,
I’ll kill it.” They made it easy.

Perplexed? Why?
Not all weapons need bullets
Sometimes, words are enough
To strangle hope in broad daylight.
What happened to decency?
Has she followed kindness?

I Lost The Instructions to being a woman

I Lost The Instructions
to being a woman

You beat "Her" out of me
leaving my soul tattered.
In the beginning you were kind
warm and jovial, it mattered.

Gradually you began to change
taking me away from all I knew,
from Minnesota to the east coast
an easy ride we drove straight through.

I discovered your evil temper
on our trip, it left me in fear,
knocking me down, kicking me
you bellowed, shouting, making it clear.

I Lost The Instructions

I made the instructions redundant,
Disregarded the words so I’d solve
The abundance of lies that are told and
Pushed them to the back of my mind – resolved.

The instructions in question, it’s said
Were spoken by God and then written
I dismissed them, don’t miss them
The story bores me so I put them to bed, I’m now smitten.

I lost the instructions on purpose
And never follow the rules of the book
I boycott the writers, the priests – they deserve it
It was my task to make my own path, without instructions, I’ve passed.
