lost receipts

she believes in sleepless nights on city streets
blue lights, blood, the sound of moving cars;
oxygen gulps, lipstick, lost receipts-
a chemical link between reasoning and bars.

she believes the world is thriving on addiction
not weed, nor need of knowing what you weigh.
she holds that no one thinks with a conviction
but the atomic bonds of mirrors that lead astray.

she believes in cosmic kissing far from love,
the chaos of kaleidoscopes and moon-
a scientifical theory de-void of
a code of dna that's not immune.

Gulfs

What ocean lies between us now,
A pair of dimming stars
in gulfs as vast as generations
Left behind by lives transformed
In time and pressure

What empty sea is this
That separates what we once were
Into what we have become
Bereft of all but memories
Of care and laughter?

On the surface sunlight sparkles,
Yet underneath lies growing void
Reaching down to lifeless dark
A drowning man might welcome,
A soulless man acknowledge as a friend.

Cumbersome To This World

Illusion

a plate of fries
shoes, socks, magnets, bugs & number two pencil
we gravitate through a smile
a push to take us closer
when we get in then we will see

a slut as a street walker
the peril of the night
they hide behind the garb of lust
climax

exposed to the elements
a straw to suck it all in
the film on the dross take a napkin
shadows beckoning call
illusion

ASCENSHUN

aclimatize the tension
pull this string
across a bow
wave wow
show

shut down the drag chute
sweet to the bone
speed on an angle
torrid fled chrome
deflections track
that aint turning back
whispers and curses
burgundy to black

crickets in shadow
eyes on the creek
swinging the chain
glitter like teeth

runway momma
come touch down
flying on fumes
hypersound

..

RECOVERY

I limp a bit below my home
on newly installed knee
boot heels sinking in the loam
just thawed from the night's freeze.

I dare not walk too far or fast
and lean often on my gnarled old staff.
"How long,"I wonder "will it last"?
As long as me I think and laugh.

My face turns toward the northing wind
which makes the scattered cedars sigh.
I greet it like a long lost friend
listening as it passes by.

First Time Moments

Have you ever felt that exhilarating

rush when you've done something

for the very first time?

Like kissing your first

crush, or first boyfriend

or girlfriend.

Doing something you aren't suppose

to be doing, like skipping class,

climbing a tree, telling someone off,

stealing something, smoking your

first cigarette, experiencing your

first high, or maybe taking your

first sip of alcohol.

Whatever it may be it makes you feel alive

doesn't it?

Only A Memory

Devoid of your touch,
the night has turned so cold.
Loneliness has stretched
the seconds in my life
to an eternity
which threatens my sanity.

Sometimes, I thought
I saw your face
and reached out to feel
your skin again
but the illusion fades away
and my tormented soul
screamed in anguish.

So many words left unsaid.
My heart sank in bitter regret.
If only I could live with you
by my side once more,
I'll beg you to forgive this fool
and I'll strive to mend my ways

WINTER THOUGHTS

Like parachutes the snowflakes fall
from the winter sky of lead
as I stand and watch them all
from within the old woodshed.

The first snowfall of this new year
covers all with pristine white.
A scarlet redbird flitters near
splashing color in the fading light.

All the livestock has been fed
with summer hay stored long ago
the last of my chores put to bed.
I pause although I ought to go.

PRESCRIPTION

brown plain jayne wrapper
but I knew the sound
of her bootleg turn
the sandy rush of her
mane
and that growl of her motor
'look what the wind blew in'

all riders walk with a limp
like an inflection
tossed in to sweeten the
tones...
travellers with message honed
her heel was worn
damn near fifteen per cent
canter from carrying the thirty
eight..speed loads in her vest

ride was a sleeper but she was
bored max

The Wind of Change?...

The news whispers quiet, just background noise
against the wind outside my window
My foot aches, the weather report confirms that it should

Tragedy around the world brought by electrons
I try to make sense of it all
Could a loving god let all this happen?
All powerful, he should not

Does this prove that there is no god?
I'm not sure
I'd like to think that there is a benign father
keeping track of us

How disappointed he must be
