LAMENT

I once had wings that soared on winds up high
above all trees and gravity bound feet,
there intimate my soul embraced the sky,
and felt the kiss of love where freedom’s sweet;

I moved, I soared, on gentleness of air,
with heart that worshiped beauty as its art:
to know of substance, and in knowing share,
and be as one with rhythms of the heart;

Classic Novels

Whether they are
In our living room
Or we are in theirs

Animals are our teachers

The dog that wears
Its heart on its sleeve
The cat with a mind
As mysterious
as the sea

The elephants who
Help each other
The cheetah, as swift
As a Maserati

To lose one to extinction
Is like losing
The sole draft
Of a classic novel
Should the computer crash

And we have no back up

Treat Sweet

anguish to skin on your way to begin
the field mice begin with Samantha Fox grin
treasure a red rose that was plucked a while ago
their bald man fiddlers with a stick...,
shake from your hair thou fare weather fire
to base the best notion in trust...
cold pizza

reflect to the sewer,
the palace guard to there king on there hill
take a chill pill round their good place of the thrill,
mark my word in ther heat of the day
of the notion of the art to pray

Long Nights

Shades of the soul
refusing- - - to close,
another- - - long night.

Mary

Exuding the best version of Mary possible
Amongst many roles-maintained years ago
A smile so true, held on skin so soft
Each kiss melting with slow tender release

Grooving side to side in the captain’s seat
Surrey back roads in cherry red magentas
Shania bringing us home with “Forever and always”
Responsibility and sons on the other side

Ginger and garlic stewing in the wok
Ready to taste with rice and prayers
Welcoming food you helped provide
And the kindness always shared

Let Me out

Let me out you dark destroyer,
let me out of your dark alcove.
You must not hold me here,
Away from my one true love.

I want to know her sweet light,
such light that shines my day;
I want to see it full bright
the spirit light of allway.

So let me out dark destroyer
to the vast and open sky
And not in your shade hold me,
I would see the small bird fly.

Just let me go dark destroyer
let soul spread out, higher
not held to your leaden shores,
eyes crying for source fire.

The Cloud

cowards have used the cloud for acquisition
to hide lies about friends and foes alike

as the misty mountain top flees from
inquisitions and cries out loud

so may your eyes open wide
as the mists of liars collides

with the reality that most of us
want peace and heavenly sunrise

which chases the lying clouds away
leaving the pine green freshness over daisies

to wake us to higher aspirations
to clean the air and leave us breathless

after waiting in line to reach the top
of Mt. Everest, now too common

America's Cross

America’s cross
doesn't hurt

it fools us
like novocain

instead of scandalous
beams of wood
3 horrifying nails

it is the couch
and the remote

if we had to wear that
around our neck

it would be
a scarlet letter

if it were not
so in fashion

the television
a vicarious deception

a death that takes
thousands of hours

one day it will be
our albatross

the hill we die on
our Calvary

that we loved Lucy
and little else
