Merry Christmas ...(RE-EDIT)

This one poem
must be the most captivating
you have read on Christmas
from me

so open hearted
we all must be

celebrate
Christmas as
Eid or Divali
are celebrated by
Muslims and Indians
now even world wide
by
Americans/Canadians

humanity must by now accept
we have only
one God (If at all)

The Sun is common
for all we know
it gives energy
to all that we sow
and as we grow

the Sun smiles at us

An Audience of Cows...

An Audience of Cows...

I saw some cows leaning on the back fence
Just mooing and chewing their cud
I looked askance at them big brown eyes
And knew they were slinging some mud

I could tell by the way that they stared
I was the subject they mentioned
My appetite for their gossip
Made me the bone of contention

So I danced a little as I passed them
I spoke to them all by name
They rolled their eyes and let their tongues hang out
And went back to the mud-slinging game

and i'll remember the light

the first two poems i remember reading were christina rossetti's "remember" and her brother, dante's "sudden light". they made me fall in love with poetry. i am using accents as we use them in usa

remember i may go away one day
and maybe i will wish that i could stay
but there are seasons timed for all to live
some seasons take what nature will not give

After the quartet (for Phillip Adams)

After the quartet:

As one long note, bowed to thinning silence,

We politely held applause, watched these magicians

Who flout all laws of natural science,

And float above our quiet adulation.

We got home, drawn of emotion, that such

Profound things as these could be given

To a silence that filled an empty hall before,

Then put the radio on, in the want of more.

We listened to Chopin and the rain as ever

Poured, in this neck of wood, strummed, lapping

Ceaseless - almost, then came perceived calm,

Better Man

( Better Man )

I would never change my yesterdays, they made me who I am
I made lots of mistakes in life, but they all made me a better man
We live and learn and practice, we watch others pay the price
Sometimes we take chances, its all in the roll of the dice

The nights were like a dagger, long, cold and often dark
I sat there and contemplated, no avail on reaching a spark
As time turned the pages, it always helped me to understand
You cant change the hands of time, even if you demand

Cogito Ergo Sum - December contest

Or maybe I'm not
It has been a life-long quest
To see where I belong
Find my purpose

Accepted nowhere
Jocks hated me cos I was smart
Geeks hated me cos I was a jock

20 years later, same
Enthusiasts hate me cos I'm quiet
Extros hate me cos I'm an intro

Back to the beginning
What is my purpose?
Have I found it?
I have not

Veni Vidi Vici

"He came
He saw
He conquered
But the delights remained few
The victory made paltry
By her cloying, surfeit love - yet to be eschewed.
His rage remained unremitted
His misogyny again renewed
Insatiable for the next conquest
There was nothing more she could do "

What A Trip!... [December Contest]

I was jack of all trades, master of few
but I worked real hard most times
I've had three wives, three boys too
Had some accidents, that rang my chimes

My body's wrecked from habits now
I loved cigarettes and weed
I've survived, I don't know how
Always running at full speed

Loved driving fast, on my scoot
Done lots of crazy things
I like reading books, things that shoot
But poetry gives me wings

Eerie Night

In the middle of the night
I had such a fright
there was a noise
ever so slight

My hair stood on end
what was my plight?

Alone and stark naked
as I lay aright
Here it was
the middle of the night

All by myself
on the wild plateau
darkness clouded my sight

Like being in
the deserted
eerie lonely night

Then the door opened
and I shouted with might
The silence answered
and there was no fright

And a nightmare was buried
in a solemn middle of the night

A Poet's Trip to Perth, City of the Bogan

How well do I recall with pride that wonderful surprise,
A telegram to say I'd won Australia's greatest prize,
The Rupert Murdoch cup for poetry - what a beaut;
Return flights on Qantas, free motels, a rented Ute.

I sat on the silvery 'plane as it flew South to Perth
Which I’d heard was one of most bonza spots on Earth;
I introduced myself to the plump bird sitting next to me
Who was a lecturer in marsupial gynaecol-ogy.
