the woman in the black burka
she floated by
as if in a waking dream
rain was falling
and
at once I knew
her long black body
sheltered
the sun

Where,
Where i live in London i see a lot of women wearing Burqas, when i do i always wonder what are they thinking. As i believe your poem infers, are they hiding a beautiful person, personallity wise. Will we ever get to know if our cultures don't learn to mix properly. Nice poem. Love Roscoe..

Oh wow, it's such a difficult question,
on the one hand I would like to wear a burka myself sometimes, and totally support women who choose to as part of their religious beliefs.
On the other hand it feels like a really oppressive, heavy-handed aspect of a particularly nasty patriarchal religious view.

large muslim population where
large muslim population where i live, so
the burqa is a common sight here
you have written something quite lovely
about something that is, in the main it seems,
hated in the western world
you have given a faceless woman (therefore all those faceless women)
a "voice", so-to-speak...and you have given them beauty
i love content, form and length...a write that
reached deeply...i find it beautiful, and with a touch
of the ethereal
