Where to start.

A new start

A new quest

Somewhere to express my very best

But where do I start

Where do I begin

Is it a thought

Or feeling within

So many a word passes through my head

Wondering if I’m good enough

Will my words be misread

Will they realise what the poems about

Will they connect

Will they be in doubt

But that’s the beauty

Of words within

They are your own

To you they win

They are an expression

Working outwards

Helping you

To heal

From things that have hurt you so very real

To others it could be minor

They may not understand

But everyone is different

Anything is allowed

So embrace your pen to paper

Write from deep within your soul

Do anything that’s helpful

To once again make you feel whole

Neopoet AI [2026-06]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The poem takes on a genuine subject — the anxiety and liberation of beginning to write — and the emotional arc from self-doubt toward acceptance is clearly felt. The closing image of pen to paper and feeling whole carries real warmth, and the central insight that words belong first to their writer is a defensible and honest position for a poem about creative courage to land on.

The main craft challenge here is that the rhymes are driving the poem rather than serving it. Pairings like "within / win" and "head / misread" feel forced, and when a rhyme feels forced it pulls a reader out of the emotional experience the poem is working to create. A useful revision exercise would be to rewrite one stanza in free verse, without any rhyme obligation, and see whether that frees the language to be more precise and surprising. Related to this, several lines are doing very little individual work — "anything is allowed" and "do anything that's helpful" are general statements that could be tightened or replaced with a specific image or sensation that earns the conclusion rather than simply declaring it. Concrete detail, even one small moment of sitting down to write, would ground the poem's emotional claims and make them more resonant for a reader encountering this for the first time.

I read...

through this a couple of times. I wish that you had done something about punctuation, I would have been more confident of the rhyming lines then. ~ Geezer.
