Similitude of The Rock

Similitude Of The Rock

High tide’s waves pound the giant rock,

it feels no pain, it sheds no tears,

nature’s relentless, assault persists,

yet the rock neither gives nor sways.

The largest of vessels have engaged,

foolish encounters at best,

splintering remnants and souls adrift,

yet the rock has no finger to lift.

Millions will pass without a glance,

though others converge and convene,

generations come and go like the wind,

yet the rock leaves no heirs behind.

It favors not the falling rain,

nor the salted sea-born mist,

imprisons that which lie beneath,

yet the rock bears no ill will.

The rock fears not the thunder,

nor the blackness of the night,

neither friend or foe of the sun or star,

yet the rock is touched by all.

The wet and slippery surface,

won't abide the foot or boot,

success is of one’s own accord,

for the rock will not assist.

Salted texture will cut and bruise,

but never show remorse,

bleeding hands have clung for life,

yet the rock heard not the cries.

A frightening likeness in mankind,

as hearts reveal themselves,

too late to change when breath’s no more,

like a rock that's frozen in time,

like that rock just frozen in time.

The Rock

An interesting title and theme, a creative poem about permanence of physical structure. The language was good, nice word choices, the imagery flowed with internal logic, left a feeling of profundity, an eternal rock.

Enjoyable read

Allen,

I really enjoyed the theme of this poem. Each stanza holds its own depth, and the word choices made are excellent. Also, the repetition in the last two lines really pull the whole thing together.

I say well done, and welcome to Neopoet!
