Restitution and reinstatement of EBT funds a dogsend
Near strangulation
upon accessing victuals/comestibles
for many Americans
(myself and the wife included)
nearly did abend
access to basic foodstuffs
courtesy the 11th government shutdown
that resulted in federal employees
being furloughed
and the longest government shutdown
in U.S. history, lasting 43 days.
Yours truly and the spouse
found ourselves reduced
to surviving on stone soup
difficult to concoct this time of year
what with the ground frozen solid
like a block of ice
accumulating over the bitter cold
courtesy on after another tier
linkedin to global cooling,
where a mini ice age occurred how queer
no insult only neutral association meant
toward those within the alphabet people
videlicet LGBTQIA+
( an acronym that stands for
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender, Queer, Intersex,
Asexual, and/or Aromantic,
with the "IA" representing Intersex
and Asexual/Aromantic,
and the "+" symbol
representing additional identities
and sexual orientations
not explicitly listed).
The hoarding tendency
came to a forefront
within the nesting instinct
of the spouse
(faster than you can say or spell
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious)
putting the streaming Hoarding:
Buried Alive to shame.
Bring on the Apocalypse,
(a translation and an Anglicization
of the original
Koinē Greek word ἀποκάλυψις,
which can also mean "unveiling")
cause we got shelves stacked
to the hilt plus a deep freeze
packed such that the lid
does not close all the ways
counting down until the inevitable doomsday
until armageddon (in the New Testament
the last battle between good and evil
before the Day of Judgment)
reigns supreme where all pianists
will play Steinways
across the webbed, wide world -
cue the most recognizable Bach piece
used for suspenseful scenes,
his Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565,
whereby dramatic, booming organ music
used in films for decades to evoke feelings
of foreboding, terror, and suspense
after downfall of civilization
and its discontents Norway's
landscape will be covered
in immense glaciers
will block out the sun
courtesy impossible to see thru icy haze.
People will be trying to stay warm huddling
in bunches and acknowledging pyromaniacs to boot
while a hotshot rigged up
a makeshift soundcloud system
airing Die Zauberflöte,
which translates to "The Magic Flute"
in German, an opera was composed
by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
to a German libretto
by Emanuel Schikaneder,
whereby the full title
often cited along
with catalog number, K. 620
while amidst the pandemonium
the madding crowd yells
with a ferocious hoot
buzz feeding the smoldering
towering inferno with worthless loot
which smoky cloud takes
emulates a huge shape shifting newt
in the sky, which devoutly religious
among the village people interpret and repute
to be a divine signal from the creator
that peace on earth and good
will toward all men/women
reason to pay tribute
to Louis Armstrong
by playing and humming
What a Wonderful World.

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
This poem ambitiously tackles a complex and multifaceted subject—the impact of a government shutdown on access to food, interwoven with cultural, historical, and environmental references. The narrative voice is conversational and candid, which lends immediacy and personal investment to the theme. However, the poem’s expansive scope and dense allusions sometimes challenge coherence and reader engagement.
Strengths: - The poem’s raw depiction of hardship (“Near strangulation upon accessing victuals/comestibles”) effectively conveys urgency and personal stakes. - Juxtaposing the mundane (hoarding, frozen ground) with grand themes (apocalypse, global cooling, biblical Armageddon) creates a striking tension. - Inclusion of detailed cultural references (LGBTQIA+ acronym explanation, Mozart’s opera, Louis Armstrong) adds layers of meaning and invites reflection on human resilience and diversity.
Areas for improvement: 1. **Structural coherence**: The poem reads as a long, sprawling stream of consciousness. Introducing clearer stanza breaks or thematic sections could help readers navigate shifts between personal experience, scientific commentary, and cultural allusion. 2. **Focus and economy**: Some passages, such as the detailed acronym explanation or the opera’s catalog number, may interrupt narrative flow and feel tangential. Consider trimming or integrating these elements more organically to maintain momentum. 3. **Tone and register**: The poem oscillates between informal (“myself and the wife included,” “faster than you can say or spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”) and formal or academic diction. A more consistent tone would strengthen voice and reader connection. 4. **Imagery and metaphor**: While vivid images appear (“frozen solid like a block of ice,” “smoky cloud emulates a huge shape shifting newt”), some metaphors could be clarified or expanded to deepen impact. For example, the “shape shifting newt” as a divine signal is intriguing but might benefit from more contextual grounding. 5. **Punctuation and lineation**: The poem’s punctuation is sparse and inconsistent, which sometimes obscures meaning or rhythm. Strategic use of punctuation and line breaks could enhance readability and emphasize key moments.
Overall, the poem’s ambition and topical urgency are commendable, but refining structure, focus, and tone will help its powerful themes resonate more clearly and memorably.
