With Me, Forever

Though unseen, I know you walk beside me.
Though I have no proof,
I know you see me.
You hear me.

Your voice echoes in my mind
Your smile still shines in my eyes.
Your thoughts linger in my heart.

I am mad at you,
At your absence.
At fate,
At everything.

Yet my soul remains grateful
For the moments we shared,
For the distance we walked together,
For the life we built together.

You live on in my words, my tears and smiles,
Unseen, yet felt by my soul every moment.

Life is but a fleeting moment
Love remains forever; and so do you.

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The poem's strongest current runs through its central paradox: presence without proof, the beloved who is "unseen, yet felt." This tension gives the piece its emotional engine, and the third stanza is where it earns the most trust. The turn to anger there, with its short lines building outward from "I am mad at you" to "At everything," breaks the elegy's gentleness in a way that feels honest. That anger keeps the poem from settling into pure consolation, and it makes the gratitude that follows more credible because it has been tested.

The opening stanza establishes the address clearly, though it leans on abstraction to do so. "I know you see me. / You hear me." states the relationship rather than rendering it, and the reader is asked to accept the closeness before being shown it. The second stanza moves closer to the concrete with voice, smile, and thoughts, but these too remain general—a voice that echoes, a smile that shines. Consider whether one specific, particular memory might anchor these lines: not the smile as an idea, but a smile in a named moment. The poem tells us a life was built together and a distance walked; a single detail from that shared distance would let the grief become this grief rather than grief in general.

The closing couplet reaches for aphorism—"Life is but a fleeting moment / Love remains forever"—and this is where the poem risks trading its hard-won particularity for a familiar sentiment. The idea is sincere, but the phrasing arrives already worn. The line just before it, "Unseen, yet felt by my soul every moment," does the same work with more of the poem's own voice, since it returns to that opening paradox and closes the loop. One option would be to end on that earlier line, or to find a final image drawn from the specific relationship rather than a general statement about life and love.

A smaller craft note: "soul" appears twice in close proximity and carries much of the poem's emotional weight, alongside "heart." These words are doing heavy lifting as stand-ins for feeling. Letting an image carry that weight in at least one instance would vary the texture and reduce the reliance on abstract nouns that name emotion rather than produce it.
