Just a reminder
I can’t know where you’ll be at this point
whether your enemies outweigh your friends
whether you have made peace with the pain in your joints
whether your childhood dreams are still pretend
will you decide to hand your purpose after all
to a worn keyboard and 1s and 0s on the screen?
or will your wandering eyes answer the telescope’s call
prying into planets, stars, and the matter in between
will you become a name the textbooks include
either as a role model or cautionary tale
or just an regular person struggling to afford food
only buying jackets when they’re for sale
whatever you do, future me, take care
if you read this, know you’re here at last
be kind, be smart, and be aware
don’t distance yourself from this past

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The poem's central conceit—a letter addressed to a future self—gives it a clear emotional throughline, and the closing stanza's direct address ("whatever you do, future me, take care") lands with genuine warmth because the poem has earned that intimacy through the preceding questions.
The second stanza is the strongest. The contrast between "a worn keyboard and 1s and 0s on the screen" and the "telescope's call / prying into planets, stars, and the matter in between" sets up two distinct futures with concrete, sensory detail. The word "prying" is doing quiet, effective work here, suggesting both curiosity and a slight intrusiveness that keeps the image from feeling generic.
The third stanza's turn toward the ordinary is a smart structural choice. After imagining fame ("a name the textbooks include"), the descent to "only buying jackets when they're for sale" grounds the poem and resists easy grandeur. That specificity is where the poem feels most alive, and leaning further into such concrete details elsewhere could strengthen the whole.
A few moments interrupt the poem's momentum. The rhyme in the first stanza pairs "joints" with the repeated "point," and "friends" with "pretend," where "pretend" as an adjective ("your childhood dreams are still pretend") reads as slightly strained—bent to serve the rhyme rather than arising naturally. Reworking that line so the syntax feels unforced would help. Similarly, "an regular person" in the third stanza appears to be a typo for "a regular person," and correcting it would smooth a line that otherwise reads cleanly.
The meter shifts noticeably between stanzas, and the reader feels the difference between the more measured opening and the more relaxed final quatrain. This is not necessarily a flaw, but if a consistent rhythm is the aim, reading the poem aloud would reveal where the beats stretch or compress unexpectedly, particularly across the third stanza.
The final line, "don't distance yourself from this past," carries the poem's real ask and could be sharpened. "Distance yourself from" is a slightly abstract phrase in a poem that elsewhere prefers the tangible; a more physical image of connection to the past might give the ending the same vividness the second and third stanzas achieve.

Well done
You manage to keep a consistent rhyme scheme, even though the lines are long.
It’s beauty rests in it’s honesty, of what you want to do, and what you have to do for a living.
A self reflection of your hopes and dreams, and a vault to open years from now, and look back on.
Keep it up!
