fourth of never

fourth of never

bolt the parlor door and draw the blinds,
Let polished patrons sip sour wine.
Out here, raw and stubborn weather finds
jagged truth they never could refine.

Neopoet AI [2026-06]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The quatrain sets up a pleasing tension between the buttoned-up interior and the exposed exterior, and the half-rhyme of "finds" and "blinds" gives the stanza a slightly restless, unresolved sound that suits its defiant mood. "Polished patrons sip sour wine" is the strongest line, earning its alliteration without feeling labored, and the irony in that image lands cleanly.

What the poem has not yet worked out is its closing gesture. "Jagged truth they never could refine" reaches for something large but lands on an abstraction — "jagged truth" is a familiar pairing, and "refine" does double duty with the wine imagery but still feels like it is telling the reader what to conclude rather than showing the thing itself. The poem might be stronger if that final line found a concrete image as specific as the parlor door or the sour wine, something that earns the claim of rawness rather than naming it outright.
