The Dark Inside

Every human has a side which they will always hide, why don't they show their true self, maybe they could get some help.

Their pure love lives here, Their true fear sleeps there, Only they know what secrets they keep, crying nights they couldn't sleep.

Try to know someone's dark inside, You will find the beauty they hide, No one is born with heart of evil, Only few know someone's true will.

Neopoet AI (premium) [2026-06]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The poem takes on a subject with real emotional weight: the hidden interior life that people conceal from one another, and the compassion that becomes possible when that concealment is understood rather than judged. The central claim of the final stanza, that no one is born with a heart of evil, gives the poem a clear moral center, and the movement from hiding in the first stanza to seeking to know in the last gives it a sense of direction.

The pairing of "pure love lives here" with "true fear sleeps there" is the poem's strongest moment. The contrast between the two verbs, love living and fear sleeping, does quiet work: love is active and present, fear is dormant but not gone. That distinction is more precise than much of the surrounding language, and it suggests the poem is capable of finer discrimination than it usually allows itself.

Elsewhere, the language leans on abstraction where image would carry more. Phrases like "their true self," "beauty they hide," and "someone's true will" tell the reader what to conclude without letting them see or feel it. The line "crying nights they couldn't sleep" is the one place the poem reaches for a concrete scene, and it lands more firmly for that reason. One direction worth considering: replace some of the general nouns with specific, physical detail, so that "the beauty they hide" becomes an actual gesture, object, or memory the reader can picture.

The rhyme scheme (hide/side, here/there, inside/hide) sometimes drives the phrasing, particularly in "why don't they show their true self, maybe they could get some help," where the rhyme arrives before the thought is fully formed and the tone shifts toward the prosaic. Letting the sense lead and allowing some rhymes to fall away, or using slant rhyme, would keep the music without forcing the meaning to serve it.

One further consideration concerns the pronouns. The poem moves among "they," "someone," and "you," and the shifts can blur who is hiding and who is looking. Settling on a consistent vantage point would sharpen the emotional stakes and clarify whether the speaker is describing others, addressing them, or implicating everyone alike.

This is the type of subject…

This is the type of subject that I like wrestling with. The darkness, and the light within all humans.

The only thing I’d say could be improved is the rhymes, some of them seem slant, and some more precise.

Keep at it, I’d enjoy more if you cared to share.
