I am a stickler for formal poetry and for flowery modes of expression, for which reason I mostly inhabit a consciously archaic style with metre and rhyme. My favourite poet is unequivocally Swinburne, although there are lines and passages and poems I love among a wider cohort of the greats, mostly the Romantics. My subscription is to the ideas of Coleridge as expressed in “Frost at Midnight” and of Keats in “Ode to Psyche”.
