GOT MY BACK

watch all the struggling
now

working through issues
in wealthy have much states
of world

would I blame mom and dad
teacher boss religion ex's
if I was lucky enough to
be busting my ass for five
cents making shoes for
food for shelter for medication

digging diamonds gold
trucking anything
would I defend freedom
if I didnt have any
if trucks rolled in and just
scooped up freinds

would I whine about a sore
back if there was no medical
aid and would I complain
about war if I had to use
a gun or get shot or watch
my family die before I was
twelve

I complained about food
until I had to eat out of
the garbage

I didnt like the poor until
they were the only ones
who helped me get rides
find soup kitchens
slip me a fin to get by

Humility is the gold
the light
and even I with this
talent give the ownership
of the gift to the one who
is not me

and that ones got my
back

gives me strength when
I fail and fall
give me hope to hold
out my hand and get
involved in helping
rather then destroying

so I can become something
other then just what
happened to ME
so I dont make it happen
to YOU

Impressive!

I like the message very much, and it's very well-delivered. The first two short stanzas set the mood, and then I felt like the tempo increased, plenty of images passing by quickly. Good evolution to those images, conclusion comes naturally and is strong too. This passage I find a bit cumbersome: "and even I with this talent give the ownership of the gift to the one who is not me" Two edits: "if trucks rolled in and just scooped up [friends]" ... "involved in helping rather th[a]n destroying" The lack of punctuation works very well on this one, it helps to make the tempo a quick one. This thought struck me harder than the others: "would I defend freedom if I didnt have any", a fascinating question. Antoine

its a good question Antoine

what is "freedom" if Poetry was a threat to society like it was less then seventy years ago and today in various places what value would be placed on expression and what kind of poetry would be written What kind of audience would partake "Love endures all" I read someplace a poetic saying would I burn my typewriter if it were asked would I burn poetry books in that state of being would I be writing about why I cannot get my way or would I be writing a way about how I could get the Whys that people hungered for out poetry was stifled but never silenced expression is one of the great liberties but what if it were not so I believe in expression the freedom of speech I just take time to reflect on what it means How many people stood up for this in the past and gave up everything so we can write what is in our hearts Our passion our great Love in this world of reduction and concerns its something to value this thought what can our voices say thank you for your comments
